iCal/Exchange intermittent sync issues..anyone else seeing these?

We are on 10.7.2 and

Exchange: 2007 SP3 RU4

Here are the behaviors we are experiencing on more then one client.

New event creation issue where new events would not save correctly to exchange server:

In my case I was simply creating new appointments by double clicking on iCal and setting date and times. The 'new event' issue would occur intermittently among the other issues of events disappearing on refresh. To me it seemed like there was just an issue with iCal updating to the exchange server. Depending on the timing, it would update/sync and the iCal event would do one of three things…

1.) It would be in the correct place, at the correct time, with the correct name (that day, very rarely would it stay where I wanted it…since then though, it has been much better).

2.) It would no longer be on the calendar at all, as though exchange never saw any calendar event when it synced, and instead synced an empty calendar over the event time.

3.) It would go halfway…which is it would have an appointment listed, at the time that I double-clicked on, named New Event…but wouldn't have the proper name or the date/time I might have changed it to.

Drag and Drop Issues:

If you do things to fast(especially with drag and drop) you can lock up iCal and the changes which you want to make do not get passed to the server. When you relaunch iCal you do not see the changes made.

If you quit too fast after making a change I've seen it where changes do not get passed. This should correct with the relaunch of iCal however this is sporadic at best.

I have not seen or been able to reproduce the instance where when you set up a new meeting that it never makes it to the calendar or gets reverted back to being a New Event.

As we are in an enterprise environemnt there are higher ups who are just not happy about losing appointments this way.

Is anyone else experincing this.

Similar problem here. iCal/exchange worked beautfiully until recently. I now find that most of my events sync fine but then the updating stops and most items from about Nov 1st onwards do not appear. the cpu works hard continuing trying to update but it seems to never complete. I sync to the iphone via exchange also and that continues to works fine. Pls help apple!

I'm having the same issue on my MacBook air with iCal and Lion. However, it works perfectly when I'm just using my iPhone to update the exchange calendar. Whatever I do in the calendar on the iPhone( accepting meetings, adding, inviting, creating, deleting) is updated in iCal and on the exchange web platform perfectly. So I've stoped using iCal and are just using the iPhone to manage all of my appointments.

So, a good update would be nice from whoever is responsible for this mess!

I had all these same issues and it turned out to be one of the plists getting corrupt and exhibiting this bad behavior.

To fix the issue:

cd /Users/username/Library/Preferences/

rm com.apple.iCal.*

This will remove all the files that start with com.apple.ical. in your User Preferences for iCal. One of them had become corrupt somehow (I didn't bother to figure out which one) but after rm'ing all of them, this weird New Event / sync with Exchange after upgrade issue went away.

The trick here is to remove all of the preference files; if you miss one (I originally tried just deleting the ical.plist file) you'll still have the behavior. So, I can't tell you which file is to blame, but blasting the preferences won't mess up your calendar and it will fix this issue.

Hope this helps the rest of you; it just saved my life.

Hi @Alex_California & others,

I got the “iCal: -[CalManagedExchangePrincipal setPrimitiveOverrideBaseURL:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x7fe941a2fcd0” error and iCal was not able to sync with Exchange at all.

I have tried

rm ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iCal.*

unfortunatelly, it didn't work for me.

However, I noticed that I have an event with XLS attachement.

I deleted the event with attachement using my iPhone and it solved the problem – I was able to sync again.
(Do not know whether it will solve the “New event” issue too.

Two pieces of advice if rm ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iCal.* didn't work for you; I had this issue on a friends version that had several calendars active... Make sure that you defined the account in System Prefs - Mail, Contacts & Calendars. Also, make sure you have the primary set correctly. One thing that seemed to work for my friend was turning off all the calendars except the Exchange calendar, blasting the prefs, then restarting iCal and turning on the non-exchange calenders again in System Prefs.

Apple has some weird issue here with how the preferences are modified and how they are modified when iCal is open in particular with some type of corruption hapeneing in the prefs. You may want to try this order of things and see if it helps.
