hi there
i have connected a macbook air to my tv using the thunderbolt port to hdmi cable - i can only see the background (standard screen) or textured dashboard background, which will swip OK. why can't i see my apps ot anything else?

doh. i have switched on mirroring now....sorry, new to all this.
When it's not mirrored it's in extended desktop mode. That means it's an extension of the desktop off to the right side by default. You can drag an application off the right side of your main screen to the TV. You can also change the arrangement in System Preferences > Displays > Arrangement tab.
