Thinking of upgrading to Lion. Need opinions

I have a MBP, about 2 yrs old. Thinking of upgrading to Lion so that I can take "advantage" of icloud. Heard conflicting advice as to weather or not its a good idea. Have all the issues been sorted out? I'd love some real insight from users here

thanks

In Lion you can scan from Image Capture and you do not need the EpsonScan.app anymore. This will work if you have the latest epson drivers installed. My Epson scanner worked with Image capture and the latest automatic software update.

Epson Scan is MUCH better than the lame scanning software that comes with Lion. It's one of the reasons why I went back to Snow Leopard. Epson Scan gives far better control of the scanning process.

Unfortunately you are perfectly right. If anybody finds a Lion compatible version of Epson Scan please let me know. I could not find one on the Epson page, so I pointed out how you at least can operate the scanner under Lion.

Of course, you wouldn't be having these new problems if you didn't "upgrade" (so-called) to Lion. You could just be getting on with doing what you're supposed to be doing.

Of course, I wouldn't be enjoying the benefits of Lion if I didn't upgrade. I'd still be stumbling along with the less-capable SL.

Yeah, here I am stumbling with Snow Leopard. I like stumbling so much, I abandoned Lion. I never heard anything so funny. So working with a far better OS that doesn't create problems is "stumbling". Hmm. We live and learn.

"Less capable" is a meaningless expression unless you specify in what ways Snow Leopard is less capable than Lion. Less capable of doing what?

You've obviously made up your mind and nothing that I can say will convince you so I won't waste my time. I just hope that others don't take your advice.

I also have upgraded to Lion. So far my biggest problem is I cannot scan. Repeated efforts of upgrading Apple software and Epson software have failed. Image capture starts the scan and quits. Using the scanner setup in "Print & Scan" prefs I get an error message "Scan operation is cancelled" after an initial start-up of the scanner. Very frustrating. Have fixed preferences twice to no avail. Working with Epson now directly and sending them screen captures. They seem to be responding. Most of Apples support is same old procedural guides. No real nuts and bolts on a fix. If anyone as seen anything, let me know.

I tried many possible scenarios and ended up buying VueScan software which works wonderfully with Lion and my old Epson scanner. Too bad we have to pay good money ($40 or $80 for Pro version) just to stay where we were with Epson and earlier versions of OSX. Can't believe Epson and Mac would let this drop between the cracks. But I was totally unhappy with the results I was able to get with Image Capture and Preview. So I bellied up to the bare to get VueScan and was able to get on with it.

I refuse (so far). I think it's a rip off, $40 for no upgrades and $80 with future upgrades until they decide to start charging for some future upgrade. Updated drives have always been free! Epson Expression 1600 is a pretty darn good scanner, but a small boat anchor without a tiny bit of effort from Epson or Apple. I am using my HP photosmart all in one for time being. It had a good driver automatically downloaded. Not crazy about the interface with VueScan and will hold out for some type of fix a bit longer to see what happens. Can't blame you for just biting bullet and handing over the cash though. Pain I. T. A!

I'm having the same issue as j terrance and receiving the "Scan operation is cancelled" when using my Epson Expression 1640XL. Were you ever able to come up with a solution using Apple's software updates? I'm running Mountain Lion now. Thank you.
