Every time I try to sync my new Ipad, Itunes get to step 7 and then stays on "Downloading Safari safe browsing data" for what seems like forever.  The sync does not happen.  What can I do about this?  Is there any other way to transfer video and audio files from hard drive to Ipad?

Seems to just be the data Safari uses to avoid malicious/fraudulent websites.  It's data saved TO your phone from Google (once a day), not data saved from "Private Browsing" sessions or any personal info being saved FROM your phone if that's what you thought.  You can disable it by going to Settings > Safari > Security > Fraud Warning if you want, but it's a nice feature.

I'm having exactly the same problem -- my iPhone 4 sync is hanging up at the "downloading safari safe browsing data."  It just never progresses past that point.  The point of the question really isn't about turing off this feature; it's about the problem of the phone NOT syncing properly.  Why should it be necessary to turn off this feature in the first place in order to sync the phone?

Ever since upgrading to iOS 5.0, I've noticed all sorts of syncing problems with my phone.  Everything in my calendar was duplicated, so that there are two of EVERYTHING, past and future events both.  And now I really can't sync at all (although I'm getting ready to try to turn off the "safe sync," if I can ever get the current sync to cancel).

Try checking for any software updates apple has sent out for your Mac. Sometimes the Safari Safe Browsing does not work when you have not updated your software in some time. That could help with the problem.

About the duplication of calendar events - if it's what I found on all my systems it has to do with the fact that your Calendar may have moved from Mobileme to icloud.com. The Mac calendar programme often keeps the Mobileme account in there despite the transition. Go to the Calendar program on your Mac -> Preferences and unclick "Enable this account" on the Mobileme Tab. This took care of it for me at least.

I just had the same problem with 5.1. I had to force quit iTunes. Then I power on/off my iPhone 4s and started over again and it worked.

I am trying to access an internet page which definitely does not contain any malware; nevertheless Googles "Safe Brwosing", implemented in Safari, is consequently warning me to open this page.

I would like to know how to turn OFF "Safe Browsing"

Besides, I found an interesting article concerning Safari's "safe browsing" feature:
