Q: Unable to access shared folders via WebDav

Users are unable to access their home folders with iOS devices via WebDav. I am running Lion Server 10.7.2 (Server HD) on a Mac Mini Server. The users home folders are located in a shared folder (NetUsers) which admin created on the second hard disk (Macintosh HD2). Make available for home directories over AFP is enabled. Share with iOS devices (WebDav) is enabled. Share with Mac clients (AFP) and share with Windows clients (SMB) access are also enabled. The permissions for NetUsers are as follows

Spotlight     Custom

root             Read & Write

admin          Read & Write

Others         Read Only

The users have no other problems accessing their home folders via network Mac computers or logging into the server itself. Everything else (Address Book, iCal, iChat, Mail, Podcast, Profile Manager, VPN, Web, Wiki) works perfectly.

Do the user accounts have to exist in the Users folder on Server HD for WebDav to work?

I am able to accesss via the admin account using https://servername.com/webdav. Any other account gives me a login error.

Thanks in advance.

try this:  Let's suppose a user named John Brown is trying to get in. To access his home file for webdav enter "https://servername.com/webdav/johnbrown"  where johnbrown is the short user name.  Authenticate with the shortname and password.  Hopefully, that should connect to his home directory.

Akreis, it's the space in the name on the non-boot volume "Macintosh HD2" that's tripping up WebDAV Sharing for users with home directories on that volume. You can work around the issue by renaming that volume to a name without a space, but note that you'll also have to use Workgroup Manager to update the Home "Share point URL" and "Full path" for existing users on that volume.

I'm having the same problem.  A couple more details: when I try to connect using "Transmit" it comes back with a 503 Service Temporarily Unavailable.  Also, it's not the problem that "A" alluded to above, as my non-boot volume name has no space in it.

The most interesting thing for me is that WebDAV was working ok for non-admin users until recently.  Today, I migrated over some wiki pages (successfully), and perhaps in that process I mucked up something.  It might have something to do with web services and Ruby on Rails, based on the solution given here:

    http://shiroyuki.com/journal/2011/07/problem-solution-http-503-after-activating- any-web-services-on-mac-os-x-10-7-lion-server/

However, I tried what was recommended there and it didn't fix my problem.  As you are finding, I can still connect to WebDAV successfully using an admin account.

Still a problem. iPads, iPhones, etc.  cannot access WebDav shares using their username and password. The only account that works is the admin. Deleting the space in the non-boot volume (Macintosh_HD2) has no effect.

WebDAV seems to be working for me now.  Possibly fixed in the last System Update?
