How to transfer photos to new iphone

I just purchased a new iphone and now I want to transfer the photos form the old iphone to the new one. I pulled all of the photos off of the old phone and put them in a folder on the desktop. But when I synch to that folder, the album is copied twice. Any suggestions on how to successfully transfer one copy of the pics to new phone?

I looked in the user manual and the apple site which proved to be a complete waste of time as they seem to try and hide any helpful advice from the user.
