Q: Can't edit photo imported from iphone 4S

that sounds horrible... seems this is something apple wants to bury, iam sure they are aware of the issue, just pretending not to know. It is a shame if they incorp much needed features from android and fix up the small little problems they would be unstoppable... But interms of the problems now I will wait until 5.1.0 and see if that fixes things.

Fixing this photo thing, plus clearing up the pixels in the pictures, and being able to delete pictures off the photo stream (NOT CAMERA ROLL) are the big things i am looking foward to, hopefully.

PLUS fixing up end user experiences such as, no network/noservice message fixes, imessage lag, imessage pictures not sending, allowing multiple attachments, downloading of files etc etc

Hopefully, but if not then google should take a page out of this and hopefully capitalize on apple's follies... Because I want permanent solutions not work arounds.

I mentioned all the bogus battery fix things and how they were all just different versions of, Just turn off all the features, click your heals twice, say please, darken the screen so you cant see it, turn off email and calander, and somehow time it to let phone go all the way dead, then recharge it for like a month, LOL, ok a full day,  then repeat this.

My Iphone is as wireless as a telephone pole.   I am plugged in all day long just incase i need to be away from power for a few hours like at the beach or something.

Anyways, I got booted off boards like this one, called names, insulted by all these apple clonies that are like some sort of Spiritual Group. 

If they admitted to certain failures I would be very understanding.  The Iphone is an amazing product.  I just dont think they needed to lie about it to sell more and hide problems with it.

I have been successful in using Picassa to view my photos in Windows 7. When I save the changes to any folder with photos including those from my iphone 4s, picassa auto rotates most of my pictures. Then I can go back to them with Windows photo viewer and make changes if needed.

Circumvented it by flushing EXIF-data from my pictures. Really hope that Apple fixes this problem :/

STEPS FOR PHOTO ROTATION & EDIT FIX:

I posted a work-around using iPhone 4S, OS 5.0.1, with Windows 7, Outlook 2007, Windows Live Photo Gallery on another forum thread and thought I would share it here too. Labor intensive but it works and includes your original iPhone photo edits. DO NOT ERASE SYNCED PHOTOS FROM YOUR IPHONE UNTILL YOU VIEW THEM ON YOUR PC!

1. Choose a photo with an orientation issue on your iPhone 4S, do your edt/crop & save from the iPhone then email it to yourself from the iphone (or whomever you want to share it with). Even if the photo doesn't need editing, do a slight edit and "save" it before emailing. You don't have to change orientation from the iPhone, it will right itself once emailed.
2. Open the emailed "edited" photo on your PC, save it to Windows Live Photo Gallery (I save it as an additional copy just in case)
3. Find and open the newly saved, now "right-side" up photo in Windows Live Photo Gallery, right click on the photo, Properties/General Attributes, UNCHECK Read-Only, click Apply and OK.
4. Close the photo and then re-open it in Windows Live Photo Gallery, your "original" photo edits made on the iPhone should now be visible in the photo on your PC plus you can now make additional edits/crop using Windows Live Photo Gallery.

This works! It's labor intensive but I made a cheat sheet to keep by my PC so I can quickly work with the photos that are most important to me.

Hope it helps you until Apple issues an overall fix!! (I still have tons of upside down & sideways photos on my PC)

How is this easier than my workaround? if anything this is even more time comsuming since you cant email more than a certain ammount of MB plus it uses up your 3g if your not in a wifi location...

The easiest way is to STRIP the metadata with a stripper, you can google for one. Then open the folder with all the pictures as thumbnails and just select what needs to be rotated and right click, and choose either rotate CW or CCW and done. (you can select more than 1 picture at the same time and right click and rotate clockwise or CCW at the same time)

For me it is not about rotating it is about making the photos 16x9 but same thing applies of course.  If you remove all the Meta data does that also remove the location info and camera settings?   I really like my photos organized by location so this would not be an option.  Opening in Paint and resaving under same file name does not seem to strip anything.  It does however make the photo easy to edit away in Windows.  The nice part is it then keeps an original copy in the ocmputer for future use if you want. 

I use PAINT to fix the photos I already downloaded from my Iphone before I was aware of this problem.

I turned off PHOTO STREAM for now and hope Apple will fix this problem asap. When I sync my photos without Photo Stream on they are imported correctly and I can edit them as usual.

I also downloaded DROPBOX and am able to upload my photos into this file folder in case I decide to turn photo stram back on. Even if you don't use it to edit your photos it is still a great program.

I hope Apple fixes this soon. I bought this phone for the camera and would like it to work properly. This phone is suppose to save me time, but it is doing the opposite. Right now, I can not reccommend this phone for the camera! Plus IMatch and ICloud do not work for my music. Spent house on the phone with Apple techs so far!

I also wish they would recommend users to take case off before taking any flash photos.  It is awful to go to computer and realize all your flash photos are ghostly.   The flash is too close the the lense and with a case it flashes against the ridge and back into the lense.  I went back to the bumper only case knowing that each time I take off a case I am bound to drop that slippery thing and the pictures were better.  Then I did a test with out even the bumper case on and realized that the flash photos were much better yet.

Funny part of flash photos is that everyone tends to blame the lighting and such.  It is the Apple miscue that has wrecked all those special moments. 

Then we download a months worth of videos from my wife's phone and realize that the sound is way muffled.  Yes the Genious Bar replaced the phone and were very nice about it, but no sound for the Christmas videos is pretty bad.

Apple is currently running add saying that this camera is the only camera you will ever need.    In perfect conditions it does take a nice photo but it sure has alot of failures.   I would  not trust it with a special event.

Wow, I transferred photos from Iphone to Windows 7 pc just as I always do and was able to crop into 16x9 and change lighting and it saved my changes.   Does anyone know if the issue has been fixed or did I just get lucky.

Easy and fastest way to solve this problem of rotating photos. Use a free program called "JPEG Lossless Rotator". This is the link http://annystudio.com/software/jpeglosslessrotator/. When you open the program just click on BROWSE and select the Folder you want to open. It will show all your pictures on that folder. Just select each picture moving with the arrows and press [R] for rotating to the right or [L] for rotating to the left. Very simple process because after you rotate it will automatically save that file. After you are done just close the program. Enjoy!!! Have a nice day.

It really frustrates me that I spend almost $1000 on this phone and it can't even manage photos properly. I'm suprised that iTunes doesn't have better way of managing pictures, a picture library where I can edit pictures and even videos and organise them in folders etc. Seems so simple but Apple misses the mark on it completely.

We shouldn't have to download other programs to do this. I feel as though Apple does this for Windows users on purpose just so we feel more compelled to buy a Mac and become more locked into their ecosystem. That is seriously questionable conduct for any business.

A crazy sounding conspiracy, I know. But if this issue was not created on purpose, I would've expected Apple to fix it by now. They surely know about it and know what's wrong. I love my iPhone, but i'm not willing to give up my $3000 pc for even a $600 Mac just so I can edit rotate some photos.

OK, I read through the entire thread. There are lots of good ideas (ie: load in paint, then save, then edit) but the easiest solution by far (until Apple releases an update) is to use the  free JPEG Lossless Rotator program:

One of the install options is to integrate it with the system so that when you right click on any photo or group of photos, there are now 'Lossless Rotator Left' and 'Lossless Rototor Right' options to rotate the picture(s). It works like a charm. You don't edit out all the other meta data (such as location data). You don't lose any photo fidelity (as you do when you load and save with Paint.
