Will facetime work with my iCloud aliases?

Hi,

I've created a few aliases under my main iCloud email adress. I have been trying to add them to my Facetime list of emails so that I can be contacted. However, after attempting to activate my aliases from Facetime, I get an error message.

Could someone please kindly advice me on this matter?

Cheers,

Daryl

NotANoob, my iCloud account was brand new. I never had a mobileme account. What problems are you having? I use my main E-Mail for Facetime on my home Mac computer, then I use one aliases for my iPhone and another aliases for my wife's iPhone. Both aliases were created under my main iCloud E-Mail that was set up when you first set up iCloud. This way I can Facetime between my iPhone and Mac or between my iPhone and my wife's iPhone or my Mac and wife's iPhone.

How may alias E-Mails have you created and have any of them been verified? You can only create three E-mail aliases under your iCloud E-mail account. Also which Facetime dialog box are you entering your alias E-Mail into. You should have Facetime "ON", then you should have your "Apple ID" entered, then where is says "You can be reached for video calls at" is where you want to enter you alias E-Mail.

This is my current setup:

Created new iCloud account through iPhone by selecting Setting> iCloud

Chose to create a new account with an @me.com address, let's call it myappleid@me.com

Then I went to iCloud.com>Mail, and created a new alias. It is my only alias, let's call it myalias@me.com

On the iPhone:

Settings>Facetime, I type in myappleid@me.com, and it's respective password.

The next screen is a screen that displays the above email address, and displays a Next button which I press.

A checkmark is displayed and a new screen appears.

This new screen displays the FaceTime slider showing that it is on. My AppleID is displayed.

Under "You can be reached for video calls at">"Add An Email", I enter myalias@me.com.

As soon as I press the return key, an error pops up:

FaceTime Activation

An error occurred while verifying your email.

The verification process doesn't go through. Not even when I try to 'Resend Validation Email' when I tap the Error'd myalias@me.com email area.

It looks like the myalias@me.com has not been verified. To check to see if it has been verified copy the web address https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/ and click on Manage your account. Once you sign in to manage your Apple ID you should see the word Verified with a check mark under each E-Mail. If your Alternate Email Address has not been verified try sending a E-mail from your Primary Email Address which should also be your Apple ID to the iCloud Alias you created. That is what I had to do to get one of the E-Mail aliases to work / be verified.

Correct. That's where I'm stuck. I've already attempted to add my alias as an Alternate Email Address through the appleid.apple.com site, but it errors out with thos description:

The mail alias cannot be the same as a profile email

I and another user have run into the same issue and have no idea how to resolve it. On that same page, the (main) Apple ID and Primary Email Address have no area for modification.

What did you mean by what your solution was? I've sent an email to my alias from my appleid to make sure both accounts are valid, but still no verification email for the alias.

You cannot add Alternate Email Address through the appleid.apple.com site and you cannot edit your Apple ID and Primary Email Address. All I did was send an E-mail from one e-mail address to the other e-mail address and it became verified. Have you tried turning your iPhone off and then back on or deleting the alias you created and then create another new alias. Is the Apple ID you are using for Facetime the same Apple ID you use for iTunes?

I use the same Apple ID for iTunes, Facetime, iMessage. Anywhere on my iPhone's (mine or my wife's) where an Apple ID is required I have my iTunes Apple ID. Try using your Apple ID that you use for iTunes in Facetime. Go to "Settings", "Facetime" and then click on the "Apple ID" and then sign out. Sign back into Facetime with your iTunes Apple ID and then where it says "You can be reached for video calls at" put in the iCloud E-Mail address.
