Can't access camera roll after restoring from backup

I just did a restore from my backup to my new iPhone 4S from iPhone 4. Sadly to say, something went wrong – I totally can't access the Camera Roll in the Photos app. I have 1,155 photos. Technically speaking it should be about 855 because I've already deleted quite a few. Anyway, most importantly, I totally can't access the Camera Roll. The Photos app kept hanging each time.

I tried every means and ways such as taking a new photo and tried accessing it from the thumbnail on the bottom left of the Camera app and it hangs. Tried force restarting the app (going to the Home button and quiting the app there) and restarting the iPhone a couple of times to no avail.

My last resort would be to to do another 'restore from my backup again however, before I do this, I wanna make sure that all of my photos are intact. How can I assure this? Most importantly, how can I get started with Camera Roll again?

Thanks!

Yazid

Something you can do (this should work on pc but im not familiar with mac) is plug your iPhone into your computer and access your pictures from My Computer. You should be able to access the pictures in the camera roll just like any other storage drive. Copy the pictures from the iPhone and paste them in a folder on your computer. Try restoring again and see if that works.
