I found a flaw in the iOS 5
there is a option that constantly uses your location service without you knowing, it dosen't even show the purple arrow next to the battery unless you change that option to see.
go to settings> location services> go to the bottom and go to system services> turn all off except leave cell network search, compass calibration and traffic on, and turn the status bar icon on, so you know when your location is being used
the location based iAds,and setting Time Zone are constantly using the GPS.
I noticed a HUGE battery life difference that is much better
wasnt sure if anyone knew this.
You can readily disable those three you mention leaving on - they have nothing to do with how your iPhone or any of its features or apps function. These are all sending location based data OUT - from your iPhone to Apple.
Cell Tower Search sends your location and the tower ids of the towers within range of your device - it is used to build a location based data base of cell tower usage and loads.
Traffic periodically sends location data when you are detected being on roadways, which is then correlated to traffic congestion information - supposedly used to build up a location based info system putatively for use in a traffic based nav system
Compass calibration - I have no idea what this does, but disabling it does nothing whatsoever to your ability to calibrate your compass app when it prompts you to, so it is not necessary for actually calibrating your compass on your iPhone.
I disabled all of the system services under location settings the day of iOS 5's release and my iPhone 4 has functioned just fine without any of them enabled.
I also disabled the automatic sending of Diagnostic&Usage data. My iPhone 4 has experienced no change in battery drain compared to before iOS 5.
