Found Fix for iPhone 4 and 4S battery life problem

I found a flaw in the iOS 5

there is a option that constantly uses your location service without you knowing, it dosen't even show the purple arrow next to the battery unless you change that option to see.

go to settings> location services> go to the bottom and go to system services> turn all off except leave cell network search, compass calibration and traffic on, and turn the status bar icon on, so you know when your location is being used

the location based iAds,and setting Time Zone are constantly using the GPS.

I noticed a HUGE battery life difference that is much better

wasnt sure if anyone knew this.

well there are other factors you must look at also, is your WIFI on when your not using it, do you hav e the auto brightness on, is there apps running in the background, do you have a GPS app running in the background, there are more factors to take into consideration. but this one flaw constantly kept the GPS activated even when it should not have been on.

You can readily disable those three you mention leaving on - they have nothing to do with how your iPhone or any of its features or apps function. These are all sending location based data OUT - from your iPhone to Apple.

Cell Tower Search sends your location and the tower ids of the towers within range of your device - it is used to build a location based data base of cell tower usage and loads.

Traffic periodically sends location data when you are detected being on roadways, which is then correlated to traffic congestion information - supposedly used to build up a location based info system putatively for use in a traffic based nav system

Compass calibration - I have no idea what this does, but disabling it does nothing whatsoever to your ability to calibrate your compass app when it prompts you to, so it is not necessary for actually calibrating your compass on your iPhone.

I disabled all of the system services under location settings the day of iOS 5's release and my iPhone 4 has functioned just fine without any of them enabled.

I also disabled the automatic sending of Diagnostic&Usage data. My iPhone 4 has experienced no change in battery drain compared to before iOS 5.

I tried all of the so called fixes. Turned off location services. I have no apps on the bottom (on hold) etc...

and I still am getting a Battery Drain of 10-12% per hr. if i charge my iPhone and leave it unpluged overnight Aprox 6hrs -7hrs it drains down to 50%! Suppose to have 200hrs of standby As Avertised? I dont think So. I hope Apple will have a fix for this soon.

Ok, I got my iPhone 4S to get better battery life. I did all the suggestions listed above... (AGAIN)

i.e. Turn off Location Services for TimeZone, And Calendar Notifications.

I Also turned off the STOCK widget on the notifications pulldown. Run mybattery down till the phone turned off, then Fully Charged it and then Did a HARD RESET. <--- MOST IMPORTANT {I believe to make changes take effect}

Last night I charged it up and then unplugged it at 8pm then When I woke this morning at 6 I checked it it still has 99% !!! yea! (last time I Unpluged it overnight fully charged and then woke up it was at 55%)

Also I am using it today normally and I am still at 98%! (Made 2 Phone calls 3-4 mins each) checked 3 emails, and surfed the web for about 5 mins) and its 11am! Orginally I would have been Down at around 80% or Less!

So To ReCap:

I turned off the Stock Widget, Turned off Location Services for TimeZone, Turned Off Calendar Notifications & Run the Battery down to Empty, Did A Hard Reset And Its Dramaticly Improved the Battery Life!

I hope his helps afew iPhone owners till Apple fixes the Bug/Bugs in ios5/iCloud.

Good Luck!

Mike
