Q: Found Fix for iPhone 4 and 4S battery life problem

I found a flaw in the iOS 5

there is a option that constantly uses your location service without you knowing, it dosen't even show the purple arrow next to the battery unless you change that option to see.

go to settings> location services> go to the bottom and go to system services> turn all off except leave cell network search, compass calibration and traffic on, and turn the status bar icon on, so you know when your location is being used

the location based iAds,and setting Time Zone are constantly using the GPS.

I noticed a HUGE battery life difference that is much better

wasnt sure if anyone knew this.

Agree. I tried it and it still drains about the same. In fact I turned all location off on that page and still didn't help. There is some bug in ios5 that is probably not user changeable or fixable.

I also thought about doing a hard reset. I will try this and see how it goes. Thanks for the info!

My experience is that turning off Siri vastly increases battery life.

I hope upgrading to 5.0.1 resolves the issue. Will known once it is GA.

Apple released an update to fix the battery issue and a few other things last week. I updated my iPhone 4S and iPod Touch yesterday with 5.0.1

My battery drain problem with my iPhone 4 was resovled by deleting my email accounts and re-adding them.  I've since upgraded to 5.0.1 and have more battery usage improvement.

So how about the sensor light is still on all the time? Does it associate with Siri? When I activate the screen, the light is on immediately and keeps on? Even when I turn Siri off, the light is still on. It will cause a certain amount of battery drainage. I am using 5.0 not update 5.0.1 yet. Don't know if I should. So what should I do to get this bug away?

Have tried all the tips (including deleting email accounts) but it has not resolved the battery drain issue. Have upgraded to iOS 5.0.1 and the battery continues to discharge.

Have started carrying the charging cabel around with me, and end up plugging the phone whereevr I see a power point. Feels like I am back to use a land line.

Hope there is a real solution soon.

I'm with you in the same boat. I have to bring my charger everywhere I go because everything I've tried so far hasn't fixed the problem. This is starting to become a real pain. They need to do something soon. The new iOS 5.0.1 software still hasn't fixed my issue.

I really don't think this is an iPhone issue. I just came from being a Droid user and I darn near had to take my charger wherever I went as well. I even see people with blackberry's charging their phones on the go as well. These phones now a days can do so much stuff that it wears down the battery. I hate to say it but I bet its going to be a way of life unless you get the iGo which is a portable battery charger the size of a pager. You charge it up then when your phone dies, you plug it up and get some juice but then you have to charge the iGo back up for the next time you need to charge your phone. Look it up on Verizon's website.

I was getting frustrated with the battery life on my iPhone. I ould charge it up to 100% and disconnect it before I went to sleep and in the morning it would be dead or almost dead!

I decided to fully charge it and then put it in airplane mode overnight to se if it was something that it was doing in the background. And in the morning I still had 100% !!! So. from there I already chaged my location services off. So I figured it was my email. and I was right! the constant checking of email killed my iPhone Battery!

So I made an adjustment on my eMail and now the battery is holding a charge longer again!

I went into settings, mail, Fetch New Data, Push... Changed it to from every 30 Mins to Manually.

Then from there on the bottom selected advanced, and changed my 3 email clients & iiCloud to fetch.

    Thats it.

note: as of me writing this, my battery is at 35% I charged it up 1 Day & 22 Hrs Ago.My Usage is 4hrs & 45mins (email, web browsing, phone, some video & music) I want to see how long I can last without a charge.

Ok heres what I ended up with....

    I got to 1 % left on my battery at 2Days & 20Hrs with 7hrs & 4mins of usage.

And since I purchased a Knock off Morphie Juce Case ($25 on ebay) I turned it on and let it charge my phone. I got upto 45% charged with that. So I estimate I can go about 4 Days without Pluging in my phone!

    Hope this helps!
