Address Book Sync Problem

I just got an iPhone 4S. I have email & my calendar syncing OK. I cannot get my Address Book to sync. Out of 1240 contacts in Address Book, only 3 will sync with my iPhone. Any suggestions? (I'm using OSX 10.6.8)

MacBook Pro 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, Mac OS X (10.6.8)
