Getting Stereo playing through LEFT channel only

QuickTime Player (Not Pro) - Getting Stereo playing through LEFT channel only

Both speakers work (stereo from other sources).

Quicktime Player shows Left & Right 'histograms', balance control is in middle position - yet only left chanel play through...

Any ideas what's causing this / How to Fix ?

eMac G4, Mac OS X (10.4.4)

On all QuickTime files?
Open QT Player and then Command-K (A/V controls). Check settings.
Open Audio MIDI Setup app (Utilities folder) and click the button to "configure speakers.
Do you have any third party audio software installed (Pro Tools) installed?

Thanks for your reply & the Suggestions.

ProTools - Final Cut Express Vn 2.0.3, but that's all.

Actually the problem is more complicated, then I first said.
QuickTime is playing in stereo just fine - generally.
But QuickTime Player - receiving a stereo audio only broadcast, plays only through the left speaker. - (Your midi test showed both speakers working OK)

I am wondering if it's due to a bug in QuickTime Player ?
But playing say an MP3 with quickTime player - it's in stereo

The original signal is comming from a QuickTime Broadcaster - in stereo, is received in stereo, (QuickTime Player shows Left & Right histograms dancing)The audio switched to stereo, Balance etc OK - but get left output only !

I suspect Pro Tools. All of your software from digidesign has been updated to "play nice" with Tiger and QT 7?
Some output settings in Pro Tools may be messing with the audio playback of QT. An easy test would be to compare a file while logged in under different user accounts. Pick one that plays "wrong" and try it under a different user.

I am having the same problem on my G5 tower. The powerbook laptop seems to play stereo just fine. Trying to find out the difference.

I have QT Pro v7, current update.

It plays other QT audio files fine and iTunes, etc. The Apple QT movie trailers play only the left channel. I've tried Safari & Firefox. Same results.

I have tried listening using Harmon Kardon SoundSticks and also directly into the earphone jack with headset. Only left channel plays audio either way. Strange. It used to work. Don't know when it changed.

Curious to hear ideas.
