My MacBook Pro is in the shop for repairs. I want to buy add'l memory for it while it is being repaired but I need to know what Ghz my processor is and I don't recall. If I provided the s/n # to the local Apple Store could they tell me? It's a 2008, 15" MacBook Pro

Go to the little Apple on the upper left corner of your screen.
Click on it and the top menu item will be "About This Mac"
This will open a window that will tell you a bit of info abut your computer, including system version, ammount of RAM installed and PROCESSOR TYPE AND SPEED.
There you go !!
Nevermind. I tried entering my serial number here: http://support.apple.com/specs/, and it couldnt tell me whether or not my model was a 2.3ghz or 2.7 ghz. Providing the model number produced the same information. I suspect for the Apple Store it would be the same. Have you tried calling the shop where you mac is being serviced to ask them?
There's an early MBpro 2008 15" and a late 2008 15" MBpro. The memory you need depends on which you have. The Late 2008 came out in October 2008.

Thanks Michael. The problem is that my Mac is in the shop so I do not have access to it. I was hoping to buy the memory before I get it out of the shop.
Do you by chance know the model number? is your mac registered with Apple?
