Can I switch sim cards between activated iPhone 4 and activated iPhone 4S?

I have an iPhone 4 16Gb full of music. I just received a new iPhone 4S which I've already activated. I want to give my wife my iPhone 4 but I want to keep my telephone number. Can I just swap the sim cards? Are there any issues?

iPhone 4S, iOS 5, Both are activated.

The first iPhone 4 was mine. My wife doesn't have a phone at all. It's on AT&T. I've only had it for a few months and have upgraded it to IOS 5. When the iPhone 4S came out, I decided I wanted one. I decided to order a 4S for myself and give my wife my iPhone 4. I received the 4S today and activated it with AT&T. They are currently on separate plans, both on my account and at the end of the billing cycle I plan to put them on a "Family Plan".

Are there any other pertinent details that may have a bearing on whether I can swap the sims or not? The goal is simply for me to keep the original phone number from the iPhone4 by switching it to the 4S. If it's going to be any hassle at all, I'll just give my wife the 4 as is and tell my company my new phone number. It's not that big a deal to me.

My ultimate goal is to ditch my land line and change my wife's iPhone number (whichever one it ends up being) to the number we currently have on the land line so she can keep getting calls from her friends, which amounts to 99% of the calls we get at on the land line. I only get calls from her on my cell phone so changing my number is not a big deal.
