subscribe to a photostream

photostream is no sharing tool and also not a web-gallery. There is no URL.

It streams your own pics to your own devices. That's all it does.

I repeat myself : there is no URL. Photostream is not on the web as in Internet . Not accesible by a Browser,Mail client or whatever online tools are used . It shows up only in iOS5 and in iPhoto or Aperture on Lion. The stream itself is in the cloud, i.e. on many servers somewhere in the world, hidden for the public.

Only Apple knows where it is. You yourself don't know the exact location. You can also not see it in www.icloud.com. The only frontends capable of displaying the stream are your own devices and PC/Macs.

I cannot believe this is true that Apple does not allow us to share our photos with family and friends.

If this is true, it is INCREDIBLY BAD and not why we have been buying apple products!

Cannot understand why photostream does not have a URL for us to share photos with family and friends.

Sharing photos on all our personal devices is uneeded and STUPID!

Sharing our photos with family and friends is a MUST and why we have Mac's, iPhones, iPads and cameras.

Please tell me that this NIGHTMARE (no URL's for our photo streams) is not true.

You've now posted this question in four separate threads. Could I ask you not to do this: for one thing it's liable to waste the time of people who are trying to help you by causing them to answer the question in one thread when it's already been answered in another.

I can believe that you're pretty upset. Because you expect from Apple an intuitive way of handling things.

Let me try to explain what I did with photostreams.

In iPhoto view Events

Select an Event

Click on Share and select MobileMe Gallery

If that's created then

Click on tell a friend. That open a mail message that you can send to a friend. It contains a link to your MobileMe Gallery

http://gallery.me.com/YourAppleID/

with a userid and pw

When your friend goes there. He can subscribe to this gallery through RSS or directly in iPhoto.

The RSS link is given something like:

http://photocat.me.com/YourAppleID/<1000099>/rss

When he opens iPhoto he can see this subscription. And also the photo's

You can also paste this link in Menu \ File \ Subscribe to photo feed..

When you add later on another photo to this gallery then your friend will get a message or he can check for updates in iPhoto.

Appreciate the help. I think I will pass on using any of photostream and other Apple photo sharing. Just very disappointing that Apple appears to begoing backwards with the elimination of MobileMe. Also iCloud appears to be useless.

Short version, in iPhoto you can create a photostream by selecting the pictures and using the share button. For an existing one, you can change who can see it by selecting the stream and doing 'apple + i' for info.

That's true you cannot see it on icloud. HOWEVER, there is actually a link that you can share!! On your iphone after creating a "shared photostream" you can click on "share link" and email it or text it to someone.

That would be a Shared Photo Stream, public or private that uses a URL. You need Mt. Lion 10.8.2 or later to be able to utilize that feature.

To use Photo Stream, including Shared Photo Streams, you need an iCloud account, compatible devices, and up-to-date software:

• iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 6.0 or later
