IOS 5.0 and AT&T Microcell issues

Both myself and my wife have an iPhone. I have the 3gs and she has the iphone 4. We moved to a new apartment recently and the reception there is awful so we purchased a Microcell which resolved our signal issues at home. When we were in range both of our phones would automatically connect and stay connected until we were out of range again.


Now IOS5.0 was released and we both upgraded and both of our phones are having issues connecting to the Microcell. Sometimes the phones automatically connect but sometimes they dont (maybe 50/50). And when they do connect they rarely stay connected for more than a few hours and almost never stay connected overnight. My phone will even go to searching for a signal because it cant find an AT&T tower. If I turn the phone to airplane mode and back on then it typically will reconnect to the Microcell.


I would blame the microcell but this issue cropped up on two different models after updating to the new firmware.



Any suggestions?

I found a forum the other day talking about something similar. They described to delete the microcell from the ATT web management and to reboot the microcell then unplug it overnight. Then go through the reregistration process... I actually did that this morning and it has been working well so far. I will give it a few more days and post back the results.

I am having the same issue after upgrading my two iPhone 3GS. One phone is my "office line" and I never take it off the dock. The other is my mobile that I take everywhere. I used to connect instantly when coming into the house from outside to the microcell, now I either have to reset the network settings or shut the phone down.


I did some troubleshooting on my own with the microcell, rebooted, etc. and then and took the office line outside, it connected to the AT&T network out of range of the microcell, but when I came back in the house it did not connect to the microcell. So, it is an iOS 5.0.x issue in my opinion.


I'm sure Apple and AT&T did not QA this on the release since most users probably don't use the microcell. Hopefully Apple will resolve this issue.

Same exact situation here with one iPhone 4 and one iPhone 4s upgraded to iOS 5.0.1. Microcell was fine for over year with multiple 3GS and 4 iPhones running various iOS 4 versions. When we upgraded to iOS 5, the issue started. Our experience and troubleshooting mirrors Jeff's exactly and switching on/off airplane mode does make it connect to Mcell. Resetting network connections does not permanently resolve the issue.


I agree that Apple needs to resolve this issue.

This is definitely an Apple iOS issue, and a double inconveniece by first not having AT&T cell coverage, and then not having the device connect automatically to the microcell like it is supposed to. Yes, by putting the iPhone in airplane mode and switching off again, it does connect to the microcell.


However, I pay like you all do for the microcell and chose the iPhone out of many others, so I do expect it to work correctly. This should also be implemented in Apple's QA when they launch a new device that connects to the microcell or an iOS update.
