I clicked the clear feature after downloading something from the internet and the whole thing disappeared from the right top corner of the safari page. I can't figure out how to get the button back for more downloading. I have Lion and the button was there before I clicked the clear. How do I get it back. Thank you.

It's just a list. The stuff you downloaded is still there in Finder > Downloads.
right click where it used to be and click 'customize toolbar'
there you can drag the button back into the bar wherever you want.
My customize toolbar' doesn't have the download botton in it. Now what do I do?
have you tired dragging the default toolbar in its place? as that's where my download button is.
would that be Show Status Bar? I'm so confused. Not sure where to look for the default toolbar.
head back onto the cuztomize toolbar thing you were on (right click on your safari toolbar) then at the bottom of that little pop up it says 'or drag the default set into the toolbar'
just drag it then add all your buttons again.

Thank you very much for explaining this to me. I liked to watch it download and now it is just going to bookmark on toolbar. I was just draging the download icon up to the box before but now it get a save as option and I can't get it to go into my itunes now. I'm so new at this.
Would you be so kind to tell my just how to download a mp3 audio without that download button showing? That is what I'm having trouble with. I was dragging speaker icon to the button before now all that's happening is turning a bookmark to save as which is not what I'm able to use to install into my ipod. Does this make sense. Thank you for being so patient.
Right-click or control-click on the MP3 link and select "Download linked file" from the contextual menu that appears. This will only work if the link is direct, rather than to some sort of player

Remember that the button will vanish again when the download list is cleared.
