Running Garageband 11 and editing podcast and playback is sticking. Can hear voice, but doesn't playback smoothly so can't edit.

Running Garageband 6.0.4. Editing a podcast consisting of me interviewing someone. Click for playback in order to edit, will hear voices, but the playhead sticks in one spot and then jumps ahead, as opposed to playing smoothly, so makes editing impossible. Any ideas?
