My husband is having the exact same problem since upgrading his iPhone 4 to iOS 5. Mine has been fine. I'm beginning to wonder if the sensor has always been hyper-sensitive and this iOS version is less tolerant. Anxiously awaiting a solution before he tosses it out the window.
Any news? I replaced cable proximity too but nothing change! Some problem for me! Help!!!
I have the same problem with iPhone 4S iOS 5.1.1.
When I restart the phone (i.e. press power and home button for 10 seconds and start again), it would work for a while but would fail again after some time. I don't remember having this problem a few months ago.
Enrico if you solve it please write me a magdale76@hotmail.com
I had been crazy for this proximity sensor that doesn't work!!!
thank you very much
ps. I suppose It's a software problem
I would think this is a software problem. I didn't have this problem before although I cannot pinpoint exactly when I started having this problem.
Might the problem have started when you put a new case or screen protector on the phone, partially covering the sensor?
No cover for me...it's original. Mauve the problem starter when I do some update but I dont remember of 4 or 5
Sorry for the english..I forgot t9 in Italian :)
I don't think it's the case or the screen protector. It was working fine until a few months ago and I've been using the same case and screen protector since I got my phone last year.
Try removing it anyway. Can't do any harm, and either way you learn something.
I tryed to remove all and changed proximity sensor too! So I think the problem It's via software and no hardware. What do yuo think? Thank you
Tried it before already and it didn't fix it. Always works after restart, then stop working again. All the signs showing it's a software issue.
If its a software issue why doesn't my phone have it, and why don't most of the other 250 million iPhones have it? (If they did there would be tens of thousands of posts about it, as demonstrated by the number of posts about battery life).
It may be an issue specifically with your software. If it is restoring as a New phone should fix it.
Thanks Lawrence for trying to help.
Unfortunately, as you can see from this thread, the exact issue (i.e. how to replicate it, how to fix it, etc) is not yet clear to all those who have it. Just because it's a software issue doesn't mean it has to manifest on all 250 million iPhones. It could be because of a combination of iOS 5 and a particular app or a particular setting.
iOS6 is coming out soon. Let's see if that fixes it.
By the way, I tried restoring as a new phone as well. Worked once and only once. Issue still there. Also found a bigger thread discussing the same issue so obviously not a rare case.
Any news with iOs6? proximity sensor work now? Thank you
