I received a folder with video files to edit for work. It all seems to be a CPI format and imovie greys out everything and wont let me upload any of the files. I am not sure what camera was used or anything like that. Can anyone help me I am new to imovie. I am using imovie 9 according to my computer.

How large in file size?
I think they sent you the wrong files from the camera.
There are 38 seperate files (I have both MTS and CPI files in these folders) The CPI ones are 4 KB and the MTS ones really range. Some are like 24 MB another is 497 MB. The Mac I am using isnt even recongizing the files. When I click on it it says KIND - Unix Executable File.
The .mts files hold the video data. The .cpi files are used to store a "thumbnail" preview.
iMovie is only designed to import directly from a camera. It doesn't understand what to do when presented with the .mts files once they are removed from the camera media.
There are methods to "reproduce" the folder structure and move them to a "Disk Image" (.dmg). Once this folder structure is created and put into a Disk Image iMovie will think a camera is connected and import and convert the .mts files.

eileencarroll, you want to look a program that can re-wrap the .mts and cpi files to make it appear as a Camera Archive from the original video camera memory card. The program I have seen most often mentioned is called ClickWrap. This program would take your files and generate a new folder that could then be imported into iMovie I think.
