iChat Text Display Issue

Users who have specific colors on iChat are having their text reformatted to random colors on my ichat. How do I correct this?

It is turned off.

I'll try to explain the problem a little better.

The people I talk to on iChat also use iChat and they have specific colors that their text used to appear as (Purple background and white text for example). On my screen, it now shows up with a random background color and black text even though on their screen it is still the purple backround with white text.

Ummm,

The only time I have seen it get changed are when server people are in a group chat and iChat tries to keep the identities different.

Then, as you describe it will change at least the background colour.

AT this stage I would try and Set an Override and see if that is working and then Unset it and see if that "jars" it into accepting the Font colour and IM background colour the person is sending

Hi,

With iChat open go to the iChat Menu > Preferences > Messages pane.

Use the Override options to set Font, it's colour and th colour of the IM

Then contact a Buddy to see that this is working.

IF it is then deselect the Overrides and see if the Buddy can then send you their choices.

(I am presuming that although it shows no Override has been set that it is in fact sort of "Stuck" and needs you to change the setting s just to free it up again)

Hi,

I got a Lion computer this weekend just gone.

In a Bonjour chat between two of my computers the IM stayed the colour I had set on the second computer (Font is Black).

However when I use an AIM name to send an IM between the two I experience the same as you.

My default colour is a sort of mid Green with Arial Black as the Font and the colour of the text as Black.

The IM comes to iChat 6 as a light purple IM.

The same happens if I use the same two AIM Names in iChat 6.

In fact it gets slightly weird in that iChat 5 shows the "Right Colour" (as sent from iChat 6)

iChat 5 to iChat 6 shows as this Purple, but the same account on the iChat 6 computers shows the replies as Blue IMs - whilst in turn sending from there still shows as purple in iChat 6 but the regular colour I use in iChat 5

I wondered if it was anything to do with the colours being the same so I changed the outgoing one on the ichat 6 computer with no change in the behaviour.

As you say the Reformatting setting makes no difference.

I can see that if like me you test between two computers that have the same iChat accounts on them that you might have some benefit from the colour being different.

I will try and test with a Buddy to see if a Different Account/Screen Name makes a difference.

However, from what you first reported about a Buddy's Colour it would seem it is new behaviour to iChat

Hi,

I have tried this again.

The only thing i have done since I last posted is to Shut Down and restart the computer everyday.

My iChat 6 between two AIM Accounts on the same computer now show the colour set in the Messages part of iChat.

The IM also displays this colour on my other computer.

Also posting back from the MacBook Pro to the Lion computer also does not change the colour now.

HI.

I am not sure we did anything.

Everyday chats do go through the AIM servers so it may have been something caused by going through a particular server (it's a long shot but I have nothing else)
