Picture Messaging - Replies turn into group messaging

I have group messaging turned off but have found that if I send out a picturemail to some friends, it turns into group texting and everyone can see each others responses.

This has become a major pain as a there are people I send picturemail to who dont know each other and everyone ends up asking everyone who everyone is.
