How to install iDVD on 2011 macs??

But will the install of iLife 11 retail DVD downgrade or effect negativly the already installed iLife package?

No, iDVD is tested on the latest Macintoshes.

I came to the conclusion that I need to find a copy of the iLife 11 Retail DVD to get iDVD installed, right??

If that doesn't work you can purchase iLife 11 on disk (don't get the download) for about $39.

Have purchased a new MBP and need iDVD. Apple tells me that they no longer have iDVD and to look for other 3rd party software (Toast - DVD Creator). Any ideas on how to get a legal copy of iDVD?

Does frustrate me that my new MBP that has iMovie has a link to use iDVD but does not include it. Really not smart.

Everyone I know (as recently as four days ago) got a free copy of iDVD from Apple by calling the above telephone numbers.

FWIW iLife 11 is still available at the online Apple Store, iLife '11 - Apple Store (U.S.), and includes iDVD and iWeb.

I have both Toast Titanium and iDVD. For making movies, iDVD is much better. I highly recommend purchasing a copy of iLife 11 on disk. There you will find iDVD.

Why do you feel that iDVD works better? Isn't burning,...burning? Just wondering.

If you compare the themes that are offered by iDVD vs what Toast offers you would know what he's referring to. It's just not burning but creating a project to burn. IMO Toast doesn't come anywhere near iDVD is creating a professonal looking video DVD. Not even close.

Does iDVD have templates other than what is in iMovie? I thought iDVD was simpky a way to burn the iMovie? I already have iMovie 11, Garage Band 11 and iPhoto 11.

If you want to make movies on Macintosh, iDVD is a MUST HAVE. There are no alternatives, or substitutes.

I spoke to Apple care they told me they don't support IDVD/Iweb but he was nice to tell me that if I have another mac I should go to my applications and drag IDVD/iWeb to an external hard drive. You also have to get the IDVD themes folder which can be found Devices / HD / Library / Application Support / IDVD . Then place the IDVD folder in the same spot Devices / HD / Library / Application Support / IDVD on your new mac.

When I reinstalled iLife after replacing my HD in my mac iDVD didn't reinstall. I ended up downloading it from CNET: http://download.cnet.com/3001-7970_4-20628.html?spi=1aa3915d9e74985a497aba4c8e8c 0143. It downloaded in a couple of minutes and popped up in my apps. I put it in my dock and it seems to work fine. Good luck.
