Converting DVD's to ipod

I use PQDVD (www.pqdvd.com) and it has worked quite well so far. It costs $35. Basically a one click deal - start the movie/show on your PC (no mac version avail. yet) and click Record It. It will copy a 2 hour movie in abut 45 mins. The program saves the rip in an iPod Video folder. Just add to the iTunes library and update your iPod. Pretty cool.

I've used DVD Decrypter for mine.

It basically selects the movie file [make sure it's the one that's a normal movie length], then puts it into one big .VOB file.

Then, use Videora to convert the .VOB file into .mp4, then put into iTunes.

Download DVD Shrink (http://www.dvdshrink.org/what.html). Then re-author the DVD so it only rips the main movie (no menus or extras), and convert it with Videora. It is not a fast process, but it works well.

i also use pqdvd and i find it quite easy. it takes about half the time of the movie to rip it to itunes- so a 2 hour movie takes an hour- and then the transfer to the ipod is really quick.

I use my Sony HD Deck to log and capture in final cut pro then i find the quicktime that i log and capture open it in quicktime pro then export for ipod , picture is very good , I have about 200 movies for ipod already done.

I tried this but only came close to success. After ripping with DVD Shrink (making sure to only select main title), 5 separate 'pieces' of the film were created in VOB file format. Although DVD Shrink did leave two complete copies of the movie in the destination folder, Videora did not recognize these because they were IFO files. Even after chnaging file type to all, Videora would still not transcode the complete movies files in IFO format.

Is there something simple I am missing?

You should upgrade your iPod to the new update version 1.1.1 It is supposed/has solved video problems due to version 1.1

As suggested by some of the other posts, DVD's haven't quite come as far as CD's in terms of ease of ripping and burning. There's more factors at play, the software is still evolving, and it takes more computing power. It is possible, but at this stage of the game, takes time and a little experimenting.

I don't know how to start my question on this site so i'm replying with a question. Sorry people. I've tried putting my dvd's onto my ipod and have done so perfectly with only one problem. When I play my movie on my ipod the movies tend to freeze & start again but with no sound at all. I have to forward the movie to get sound back. I was wondering if anyone had any solutions for me and if so can you let me know through e-mail please at, modeljmj@yahoo.com.

Sounds like the ipod firmware - 1.1 causes this problem.
Search on the forum or google for help to downgrade back to 1.0.

why can't you put dvds on to ipods is there no softwear that you can download and play the dvd through
