Laptop hard drive died - Apple Care got me a new one - great, but...
I want to get the music and photos stored on my Apple TV (original version with hard drive) back onto my laptop.
Can't make that happen - ideas?

That's not possible I'm afraid unless you want to open your Apple TV, remove it's hard drive and connect it to your mac.
So, it's a one way sync?
Everything I had on my laptop was automatically synced with my AppleTV - but now that I have a new (hard drive) in my laptop, I can't put that content back to where it originally came - from my laptop? Really? That's crazy.
Not without accessing the drive as suggested.
It's perhaps not as crazy as it may appear, I assume it's to guard against you connecting your Apple TV filled to the brim with movies at £ 10 a time to all your friends notebooks and syncing all that content onto each one of them.
Probably not exactly what you want to hear right now but Apple would likely suggest that it's crazy not to keep a back up of your notebook.
