Firmware update on new MacBook Pro

Doing a firmware update, when computer restarted it went to a grey screen and has stayed there for an extended period 45min. Should I shutdown with the power key or will this mess the systeup?

The latest firmware update is slow and goes through a couple restarts, at least on mine...first download and install went as normal, then shutdown, restart but with a tone instead of the usual chime, after several minutes the Apple logo and grey screen, and a progress bar, then shutdown again and restart with the usual chime and the Apple logo. Since the system has been working fine.

If you do the power down/up and the system freezes on you, do as HAL says and take it to an Apple store and have the genius bar folks work on it.
