Task scheduler?

Hi!

I am very new to Mac OSX Lion and I was wondering if there is any task scheduler?

Preferably native (default) system that's integrated in the Mac OSX.

I googled and found that there is cron(tab) but apparently from 10.6 SL, it has been replaced by launchd?

I cannot find any detailed info regarding both of those.

In the appstore, there is Lingo 3 and Cronix. However Lingo 3 (or the Lingo) is not free. Also Cronix probably uses cron(tab), but as i mentioned earlier, someone saying that cron(tab) has been replaced by launchd?

Could someone clarify this? I just want a task scheduler.

Thank you

MacBook Air, Mac OS X (10.7.2)

The Unix cron is the internal task handler. Utilities such as CronTab or Cronix, etc. are usually just graphical frontends that make the configuration easier to do.

Launchd is now the preferred way to launch processes and can do so on a scheduled basis. There are many third-party utilities to consider, so I would say to do some searching at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads.

Hi Kappy,

I was wondering if you could help me.

I just want to schedule a task.

Why is there no info regarding how to do it? I cant find anything good on google.

Any apps you recommended are paid. There seems to be no free apps.

No wonder Mac OSX *****.

I was beginning to like OSX but with just "BASIC" task, I dont understand why i have to struggle...

it's just a task scheduler.

Can you help me please???

What is it you want to schedule, what kind of schedule? OS X doesn't have a problem. You could use the built-in cron tool via Unix or launchd. It's not the fault of OS X if you don't want to learn how to use the tools that are there but you are unwilling to pay someone a cheap shareware fee for software that you could use.

Excuse my complaint.

What i want to do is download a picture from the web every hour.

I made a crontab,

MAILTO="something@hotmail.com"

0 * * * * sh /Users/Alan/Pictures/Wallpaper/wallpaper.sh

wallpaper.sh contains:

#!/bin/sh

curl -O http://static.die.net/earth/mercator/1600.jpg

Basically, it downloads 1600.jpg file from the Internet every hour, but I am getting the email regarding this, but it is not actually downloading the file.
