Okay, so I used to be able to plug it up to the usb cable/ charge it/ download all my music without a problem. I lend the charger to someone a while back, and have just now gotten it back because they lost theirs. Now all of a sudden the charger won't fit?? What's up with this?

It sounds like the cable connection may be bent or have some bent pins. Try connecting a different cable to your iPod.
Take a look at the plug on the ipod and on the cable. All the pins should be straight. If any of them are bent or have been bunched up inside the plug, that is why you are having a problem. If you just start using different cables, it could make things worse. Do the visual check first.

Seeing if a different charger fits isn't going to make things worse. If it doesn't fit, common sense says not to force it. If the connector on the iPod is broken then it's no longer usable anyway. However, since it stopped working after loaning the cable to a friend, this indicates that the issue is with the cable. It can be difficult to visually recognize bent pins on these connectors, although it doesn't hurt to check.
