Emoji characters now come out as Chinese characters
Recently upgraded iPhone 4 to iOS5 and the Emoji characters now come out as Chinese characters. I have deleted the Emoji App, enabled the Emoji keyboard, but still a problem. How to fix it ?

I think iOS 5 and iOS 4 may be using different standards for emoji encoding. Emoji were standardized in Unicode about a year ago, while earlier various different approaches were used. I suspect upgrading to iOS 5 may be the only fix.
Visited the Genius Bar today - no answer and he had never come across the problem before. Sending via iMessage to his iPhone worked, but sending via SMS to iOS4 devioces still does not
