I have just moved from using Windows all my life to buying a Mac Book Pro running on OS Lion. But my accounting softwares Tally 7.2 and Tally 9 do not run on it.

I just learnt that the software platform of Tally Accounting softwares are specific to Windows only.

I need to run the accounting software, Mail and several spread sheets and documents at the same time.

Is there some way I can do this on the Mac Lion OS?

Help solicited !

Run Windows concurrently with OS X using VM software such as Parallels or VM Fusion. Or try to find OS X software that can replace your Windows software. I don't know how specialize the accounting software is, but if you can export its data files you may be able to move to different software that does run in OS X.

    Hi.

    Thanks for your reply.

The accounting software is on the Office LAN, and the server runs on Widnows.

While sending mails to buyers and suppliers along with data on .xls files, getting real time account positions of buyers and sellers is of prime importance.

I guess trying out Parallels free version might be a good bet.

I also wish to know if I can share files with PCs on the LAN using Windows XP.

also you can run windows on a mac with (Parallels) and run it there, then drag it  to the mac side

Are you sure it will work ?

I am in the same situation needing to upgrade my computer and we have a server and windows only dispatch/ accounting software. My computer still works but it has gotten too slow. I have heard of the windows emulator not sure what it is or how it actually works? This program is the key to our business and they do not have a mac version so I am hesitant to go to a mac. Did you get your program working correctly?

yes from the videos ive seen here on the site about parallels, and first hand experience, you will be able to do so. but be warned- software like that isnt made by apple, so i think you will have to pay a small price. hope i helped.

Why not just start a remote desktop session on the server from your desktop?

    Hi,

Remote desktop is a good option, but I have been told that while I am on the machine remotely, no other person will be simultaneously able to use it.

Considering the Accounts guy works on the server machine, it might hinder his work.

As discussed above, I now am running Parallels on my Mac (OS Lion 10.7.6), and find that when I boot the machine from Windows, the accounting software (Tally ERP 9) runs perfect, but if I access Tally ERP 9 from Parallels running on Mac, it does not locate the license file, and I can only get access to view, and not to see detailed entries nor edit the accounts.

Another issue I am facing is of the printer on the LAN.

The printer in question is the Canon LBP 2900 Laser printer.

I am not sure, but maybe we are not following the correct procedure to install the printer on the Mac, or maybe we do not have the correct drivers.

I will really appreciate help here, as these are the two features I need to run on the Mac, but am unable to.

    Thanks.

    That is true

The printer now works alright when directly connected to the Mac, but does not communicate with the Printer, when on the LAN.

    Any help ?

    Hi,

I have now been using the MacBook Pro with Windows 7 running with Parralels and the machine works like a dream.

I am able to use Windows, my office software which runs only on Windows and Mac simultaneously.

The only issue is the printer on the LAN (Canon LBP 2900, connected to our server running Win7).

While it prints perfectly if I choose to print a Win 7 file on the Mac (using Parallels), but refuses to print when I want to print a file running on Mac (for eg: Mail, Word / Excel file on Mac)

When I connect the MacBook Pro directly to the printer , it prints, but on the LAN, while it does show the printer, it does not print.

    Help appreciated.

Tally ERP works fabulously on the Mac, using Parralels Desktop for Windows.

Been using it for many months now.
