Batch Renaming photos Iphoto 11

I noticed that when I rename photos using the Batch Change command in Iphoto11, it is only for cosmetic purposes and it actually does not modify the file name. ( Browsed the photo in finder and it still keeps its original name). As I read before , any attempt of manipulating the file's name in Finder, destroys the link between Iphoto and the picture, resulting in that offending Exclamation mark sign.

My question is: Can I batch rename from Iphoto an event using the event's name as a prefix for the files and actually overwriting the files name in Finder too ?

EVENT is Holiday

photos in Iphoto = Holiday.####

files in Finder = Holiday.#### (overwriting the original IMG.00034)

I'm trying to avoid renaming before re importing thousands of pics with this generic "IMG.0000.jpg" labeling with something more meaningful.

Thanks.

No.

But there's no need do.

When you add a title in iPhoto (which is what you're doing) it's not just for "cosmetic purposes" it's an entry in the Exif metadata of the photgraph. You can search on this in iPhoto and in every app or media browser that integrates in iphoto. In other words, it's actually more useful than the filename.

Then should you need the photo in some other context, you can export from iPhoto (File -> Export) and one of the options in the export dialogue is the possibility to use the Title as a filename on the exported file.

Except it IS. When I try to export to "permanent" off computer storage (because I don't need tens of thousands of photos on my hard drive) they are seen as the same file.

IMG-001 at Disneyland is not the same as IMG-001 of my daughter's birthday.

I WANT to be able to rename the files, IMG-whatever, in numerical order, chronologically.

But being able to find these duplicates and rename ONE of them, would be sufficient.
