Contact names not showing in sms iphone 4s

I use Exchange from google to get my contacts. Everything has been fine except today I get a text message and it shows the phone number, not the name. Also, when I text someone from my contact list, I get their text in a different thread with just the phone number, not that persons name. This doesn't happen in imessage fortunately, just regular sms. This same problem happened to my friend, and she hard reset her phone by pressing the home and lock button. I did the same thing, but it didn't work.

SOME ONE PLEASE HELP ME!!!

Same issue for me after I updated my 4s, all text messages are coming in as phone numbers. Tried *228, tried holding power and stop button to reset phone, reset phone on itunes and resynced all contacts and nothing works. Still having the same issue. The funny thing is that the contact name is displayed in the notification banner but once I go to the list of sms threads it is all phone numbers. this is def a bug in the new update. Seems to only be affecting verizon. There is a ton of posts on verizon forums as well. This is annoying.

I just wanted to see if anyone had seen/heard/read of a solution to this, or if we pretty much have to wait for another update to fix the bug. I am a Verizon 4s customer, and I've tried a hard reset, rebooting, restoring and reprogramming my phone and nothing has worked. I switched over from a Blackberry for the 4s, and in the 6 years I had a BB, I never had problems like this! It's a little frustrating...

This does fix the problem.

Meaning *228, option1. Hang up. *228, option 2, hang up, then hard reset the phone.

It's important to clearly identify that you should hard reset aka reboot the phone by holding the home button and top button until you see the Apple logo. Do not swipe across the power off the phone. Just continue holding the two buttons until it reboots.

Calling *228 worked for me too. I didn't even reboot the phone afterwards. I did have MobileMe turned off for contacts (and deleted my contacts from the phone) before I called *228 and after the two calls (pressed 1 the first time, 2 the second time) I turned MobileMe back on and reloaded my contacts. All better now.

I will say that when this was not working properly, all the phone numbers in my phone contacts showed as a 10 digit string, no punctuation (eg. 1234567890) when they should have shown as (123) 456-7890. After *228, they show up properly again. And now they match the incoming number.

Interestingly, I was on the phone with Apple Support WHILE I was doing the *228 reprogramming and when it worked, they were shocked. They knew nothing about it - and I was already speaking to a senior advisor. They wanted me to do a total restore.

Crossing my fingers it stays fixed.

Background: I have an iPhone 4s, iOS 5.0.1 as of 11/10/11. All was working properly. An Apple Support technician advised me to reset system settings becuase most recent charge only took battery to 95%. After the settings reset, the unmatched Caller ID problem began.

I have the same issue after updating my 4s last night and found a solution -- you have to enter your country calling code for each phone number (for US add +1 before each phone number in ur contacts) and the numbers will automatically change back to the contact names.

Still definitely a bug but this solution seems to fix it for now.
