Contact names not showing in sms iphone 4s

I have tried all of the posted suggestions and they if they have worked, it has only been temporary. Have any of the solutions worked for good? I have noticed the problem begin when I am asked to unlock my SIM. Is there a way to reset the SIM?

I have a Verizon 4s 32gb and my wife a 16gb. She did not have this problem, and I did/do. I tried the turning off the international dial assist fix. Didn't work. I tried going into settings and resetting the network, didn't work. Then I called *228, and selected option 1. Closed all the running apps. This seems to be working now. I looked at my recent list of calls and all the names are now assigned to the numbers. I had deleted all the text messages from my phones before coming to this site thinking maybe I just needed to start fresh with a new phone. (All the messages from 3gs were there, but only the ph nos and no contact names).

Anyway, working now.

I finally got the problem resolved. I dialled *228>option 9 and then changed the language to British English and back to English and that seemed to work. Following the instructions for both individually did not work for me so I did both. I have also turned off exchange and iCloud and turned my SIM off because each contributed to the problem, for me.

You fixed it for me! THANK YOU! Was so frustrated that I received Ho Ho Ho messages and suddenly have no idea who they are from. Reset network settings was the ONLY way to make contact names return!

This fixed every conversation except for one contact. It still shows their phone number so I deleted the convo and started a new one. When I was composing the text it showed the contact name but once I sent it only the number showed up again.

I deleted that single contact and added it again and now everything is fixed : )

I just spoke to an Apple Sr. Rep and he had me go to the task bar and kill all running apps. When there were no running apps, I rebooted the phone and the problem was resolved. I also did the *228 / option 1 and they may have helped in addition to the killing of all apps and rebooting.

I lost my contact names for recent calls and text messages on my iPhone4S after I download a free app for emoji (iToyToy.com). I restarted my phone 2 times and that did not work. Then I dialed *228 and pressed option 1) and then before restarting my phone for a 3rd time, I went to Settings > Phone and then turned off International Assist. I restarted my phone and it worked. Contact names are back now for recent calls and text messages. I just turned International Assist back on and my contact names are still there so I suspect the *228 option 1) is what worked.

Major ball ache or what. Im not with verzon so did not try it, in the end I ended up restoring from backup. There are a tond of possible fixes here.

Try the suggestion of *228 and option 9 if you have Verizon, turn your SIM off and iCloud contacts can remain on ( I turned mine off until recently). Then change the language to British English and back. Reap both of the posts that instruct how to do both. That combined was the only thing that worked for me and I haven't had an issue since. I also have all of my numbers input the normal way without the 1.

Also, I turned the SIM and iCloud off before calling *228. I haven't turned it back on yet because I forgot about it until now.

This is rediculous though. We shouldnt have to mess around with the phone and crap. Apple needs to fix their problems. I tried the 228 thing a few times and deleted all my messages so we'll see what happens but I hope a new update comes out fixing it.

I too had this problem and was able to fix it by going into Settings, General, International, Language, then changing from English to British English and back again. My current texts once again showed the Contact name instead of only the number without dashed or parentheses.
