Contact names not showing in sms iphone 4s

I use Exchange from google to get my contacts. Everything has been fine except today I get a text message and it shows the phone number, not the name. Also, when I text someone from my contact list, I get their text in a different thread with just the phone number, not that persons name. This doesn't happen in imessage fortunately, just regular sms. This same problem happened to my friend, and she hard reset her phone by pressing the home and lock button. I did the same thing, but it didn't work.

SOME ONE PLEASE HELP ME!!!

Yip.

I just updated to 7.03 last night and now all my text messages, call logs and even whatsapp messages are showing Phone numbers, not names.

If i click the number and the 'i' icon on a message it quite clearly thinks this is a new contact > asking me to add new/add to existing.

And > if I choose a contact from my contact list, write a text, it STILL then shows the number and the 'new contact' type behaviour, even though it's come from ane existing contact.

Also - caller ID isnt working > my wife calls me and it shows a phone number.

These are contacts I've had in my phone for years...

This is beyond ***** Apple. Sort it please.

Ok, I may have found out the issue, and its a doozy.

All my contacts now, instead of having the phone numbers against the 'Phone' category, have all the phone number stored in the Notes Category in the format:

Home Phone 1 : 99993849

Mobile Phone : 20392390

so obviously the other apps cant understand what number is what.

If i edit the contact and move the phone number from the notes to the contact its fine.

So Apple: WHY have all my contacts been amended so their categorised contact information has been moved to the Notes??

It gets WORSE!!

Not only did the phone contacts get screwed > the phone synced all of these changes to my Gmail account, effectively destroying my 10 year old contact list.

I backed my contacts up only a little while ago, so hopefully i can just repopulate. But I cannot imagine what might happent to others.

P.S > if you use GMAIL they have a 'restore contacts' option that can set your contacts back to how they were. This has helped me out!

sounds like a case of non-standard phone labels; any time a sync happens and there is a conflict of any kind, the sync engine throws what it doesn't understand into the notes field.

applescript ∞ helpful in sorting out that kind of issue "set home phone to 3rd word in notes". also; in your case that is VERY likey because if you use any phone label that is incompatible with gmail it just takes it out; happened to my brother when i set him up to sync; i had to re-assign all the phone #s to the very limited set gmail uses.

No it doesn't.

Pretty awesome, lost all contacts as far as I can tell. Have 4 contacts left in my phone from the couple hundred that were in there before it randomly decided to dump em. Losing the primary purpose for having a cell phone is pretty sweet. I'm sooooo glad I let all the morons who love apple's overpriced garbage convince me to switch to an iPhone. CANT WAIT to upgrade back to an android phone.

I spent almost 2 hours on the phone with Apple support yesterday......and much to my dismay was not happy with what I found out. I was told you can no longer sync to Outlook......everything is done wirelessly now. You must use iCloud and that's about as far as I've gotten with it. I had to turn it on on my phone and iPad, and go to:

http://iCloud.com

and set it up from there. The good news is what I enter there, does show up on my iPhone. BUT.....my addresses are still not back because I have go to:

http://support.apple.com/kb/DLl455

which he told me will then allow my syncing with Outlook thru iCloud. Haven't done that yet.....I was worn out after the 2 hours on Chat. So.........that answers the question of why I have not been able to see my addresses! Thanks one and all for the input......hope this is helpful.

I tried Everything on this thread and nothing worked, (Iphone 4s, At&T,IOS 7.1) I checked my iCloud acct and was releived to see that all my contacts looked in order there, so I started playing around. If you go to Setting/General/Mail, Contacts, Calendars, There's a tab for default acct. I changed it from gmail to iCloud and everything synced back up immediately. Hope it helps.

Since the latest update all my contacts have turned to numbers and some have deleted. All my saved notes have also been deleted - some of which contained vital information.

Apple you have the WORST QA department in the world. You have the crummiest software which has a MAJOR bug EVERY single update. You never respond to people and you never fix the problems but leave it to the consumer to figure out a hack. You make beautiful hardware but honestly your software is embarassing.

I am disgusted at myself for giving you my money. You do not deserve it.

Let's all take a guess at how Apple will deal with this problem that is affecting a great number of people? My money is on ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
