Contact names not showing in sms iphone 4s

This is a HUGE iOS 5 bug. I'm having the exact same issue. Please, please call Apple on the issue. This needs to be fixed!

Following a tip from another poster, I was able to fix the issue.

This worked for me on Verizon.

I dialed *228 on my Verizon phone. I pressed "1" to activate it over the air. I then went into task manager and killed all the running apps.. Waited a few minutes.

The next text I got displayed the number correctly!

Though I absolutely contend that this needs to be reported to Apple ASAP. They can't fix it if they don't know it's a problem!

I have this problem too. I tried the Verizon fix and it fixed ~half of my list.

I also tried combining contacts I have multiple of and restarting the text app. It helped at first but now some messages don't have any sender listed at all! Including contacts that I didn't change.

Worked until I rebooted my phone. Now it will no longer work. F'n Apple.

If anyone else is having this issue, PLEASE call Apple and speak with a senior engineer. They can't fix it if they don't know it's a problem! (800) MY-IPHONE

Tried both the Verison programming steps and now I cannot receive messages either.

If you can no longer receive messages, I would restore from a backup.

I'm just back from overseas and am having the same issue. Even when I tried to re-add the number to a contact, it still only shows the number in SMS. Real annoying. Will try to restore to factory settings when I get home.

Both verizion programming options worked for me. I have no idea which one actually did the trick as I did option 1, and then called back and did option 2 lol (Desperate for results). After I restarted my phone, somehow, someway...it worked and my phone is finally recognizing text messges AND phone calls (my phone wouldnt recognize texts or calls depending on if it was in the 1xxx-xxx-xxxx or xxx-xxx-xxxx format).

Hope the rest of you guys get some resolution as this was driving me nuts.

Simple fix, power off your iphone, then hold down the home button and power button both until the apple logo appears, then release. Your phone will boot up normally and should be resolved!

This didn't work for me.. Does anyone know if the 5.0.1 update addresses this issue?

I can confirm that the 5.0.1 update does NOT address this issue. Phone was working fine before the update. As soon as I applied it. My contacts stopped pairing with my address book again. *** Apple?!?!
