Macbook battery life is terrible!

I just got my macbook pro 15" in august and already, the battery doesnt last more than an hour. I try to have only one application open at a time and i dim the brightness as much as i can, but the battery life is still so bad. i want this computer to last me for the next couple of years, i can't have the battery giving up on me so soon. is there anything i can do / is there anything i am doing wrong? or is this just a faulty battery.

If you just got it in August, I would bring it to the Apple Store or an AASP and have them look at it. That is not normal. You may find this article helpful too: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1446. Also from APPLE: "The built-in battery of your MacBook, MacBook Pro or MacBook Air is designed to deliver up to 1000 full charge and discharge cycles before it reaches 80 percent of its original capacity. In addition, Adaptive Charging reduces the wear and tear on the battery giving it a lifespan of up to 5 years." You can find this quote here under the first pharagraph, "your new notebook" http://www.apple.com/batteries/notebooks.html
