Power adapter connector will not insert into iBook

The connector tip to the power adapter of my 2001 dual USB white iBook 500 broke off.
When I plug in a power adapter from another iBook, it will not insert all of the way. When I look into the jack on the iBook I can't see any obstructions. It looks pretty much like the jack on my other functioning iBook.

Other than taking the iBook to an Apple repair place can anyone suggest a fix.

It sounds like the adapter tip broke off in the adapter port.

You need a new power input (DC-in) board.

The cheapest place I've found online is DT & T Computer Services. They charge $95 for the repair (plus shipping to and from Fremont, California) or $59 for the part if you think you can do it yourself. (It requires major disassembly of the iBook.)
