Lion will not install, says HD must be extended (Journaled). The HD is extended and will not let me change to journaled.

I recently had to replace my iMac HD because the HD failed but the format for the HD is Mac OS Extended. Now I am trying to install Lion but the drop down menu in disc utility to make the format journaled is not available.

Help me (insert name). Your my only hope.

Select Macintosh HD and click the Enable Journaling button. You can't enable journaling on disks, only their included volumes.

When I click on the Format drop down menu nothing happens. I can't the drop down menu to open so I can select the Mac OS Extended (Journaled).

As baltwo says, when you select Macintosh HD in the sidebar, the green Enable Journaling icon in the toolbar should be enabled. Just click it.

Or, select File > Enable Journaling from the menubar.
