During the night my iPhone 4S went dead and the screen was black. The bottons wouldn't answer on anything, so I readed on the net that I should hold down both bottons and make a restart. This worked and the iPhone started up with 60% battery level. Why???

So did mine last night. I used your post to get mine restarted. The battery level was in the red when it came on but the phone still started up. I have noticed that the battery randomly goes from fully charged to completely dead overnight sometimes, without anything being on and with me operating the phone the same way as I did my iPhone 4. Mine also makes these random noises from the speaker when switching applications.
Mine has done this three times over the last week. I knew about the hard reset and that gets it back up every time, but this is unacceptable! I don't believe it's the battery dying (mine has never been below 25% when this has happened) so much as it is the phone locking up.
Mine did this same 30 mins ago, very annoying, but thanks for the help in getting it back up
I have an alike issue, but its every few minutes! check the Diagnostics & Usage part in system.app -> General -> About and see what you find there I have lots of panics with 'WDT timeout as the debugger Message

mine done again yesterday gonna send it back i think apple might replace it ?
mine went dead on way home from work. wouldnt turn on, charge, anything.
holding both buttons down for 30 sec revived it. had 77% battery at time.
hadnt dropped it or anything...old one used to turn off if dropped in leather case.

Mine is dead this morning when I try to open Safari. Thanks for the tip to restart it. The battery drops to almost zero from fully charged. I never have such an experience with other phones before. I was disappointed.
i got my new ipone 4s yesterday afternoon, played a little bit. then in the evening went to completely dead after i put in to my pockeckt for 10 mins. no reaction even with power plugged in. I was able to recharge it this morning (plugged in and see the charging icon).
this afternoon (the 2nd day) I sent a message and left it on the table for a few mins, did not get the msg back then relized it went dead again. my friend did a reset for me and saw the battery has 65% left..

Yes! I updated to the new build of iOS only to look down and see my phone crashed or shut off suddenly. Today it bricked iteself, and I got my 4th iphone 4s.
Thanks for the tip about restarting. I was freaking out. The battery life on mine is inconsistent as well. Hoping that gets resolved shortly.
My Iphone 4s just went dead during the night as well. I trie3d charging it and everything but still couldnt turn it back on. It was completely useless. So i packed it up back in the box and was ready to head to the apple store to get it set again but decided to check for solutions online. So i googled IPHONE 4S GOING DEAD and got the answers on how to restart. Thanks to your comments it saves me the hassle of going to get this rectified. But apple should really look into this matter and come up with a solution. Pressing down and holding both keys does restarts the phone but it definately drains out the battery..dont know why though..
