Mar 14, 2012 8:44 AM in response to ShawnOb2by Pagemakers2,This worked for me before the 5.1 update, but the minute you start to delete or rename stuff in iTunes the order will mess up again.
Try having a mess about for a couple of days and let us know if it is still fixed.

Mar 16, 2012 2:19 PM in response to Pagemakers2by Kalkas,I had the same problem, but it was fixed when I "rebooted" the system. You can also try to reset the iPhone by holding both the home and power button.
Have this fixed the problem with your iPhone?

Mar 20, 2012 6:23 AM in response to Kalkasby WhelkWhelk,Kalkas, how do you reboot the system? Turning off and on did not help here.
Very disappointed with the ipod functionality of iphone, first album shuffle gone, now I can't even find my music. Pretty pathetic.

Mar 20, 2012 7:22 AM in response to biosby bios,Has anyone else called customer support? I still believe this is our best course of action. Refer to my post on March 9th. Direct customer support to this thread.
It's now been a few weeks and the person I last spoke with HAS NOT gotten back to me. Apple is really dropping the ball on this one. This is twice now that supervisors have promised to call me back with an update to no avail.

Mar 20, 2012 6:59 PM in response to biosby raincoatsGeorge,Throw me into this list too. This problem only started recently, noticing it today. I can't narrow down any cayuse of it.
Regardless, everything in this thread has failed to lift the issues. I even used a filer explorer to remove the cache files of the library in hopes that a new generation of the file would properly organize the music, as seen by Orpheus1120 here: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1277230.
I will be calling Apple support soon.
iOS 5.0.1
Latest iTunes
iPhone 4
Windows Vista, 32-bit
EDIT: On second though, last night was the first night I synced a song not from my computer directly, but by downloading it via the itunes store app after i had purchased it on the computer.
I dont use iTunes Match, or store any data on iCloud.
If someone calls, please ask about the media caching files. I will be doing so soon.

Mar 23, 2012 11:25 AM in response to DavidLagoby ReyH,Don't know why this keeps happening but its frustrating.
However if you retore and use the back up you just did, the library gets back to normal,at least the 9 out 10 times i have already!!! it ususally happens when you add music =/.

Mar 23, 2012 11:31 AM in response to raincoatsGeorgeby bios,Did you call?
I sent another email to the supervisor I last spoke with.
Nothing in return.
This situation is really irritating me. When I speak with a supervisor, they act like they care soooo much. Then there's absolutely NO follow-thru whatsoever.
I would call it a day and switch to Android, but guess what? I've invested in the Apple ecosystem. It would cost me hundreds of dollars to get a new car audio unit that isn't iPhone only. My alarm clock...works only with Apple products.
Sigh.
I'm probably going to call again today.

Mar 24, 2012 10:13 AM in response to WhelkWhelkby Kalkas,Hmm, then I guess I was lucky that my reboot fixed the problem. I simply reset the iphone by holding both home and power button. Maybe you should also do a restore of your iphone if reseting the iphone does not help?

Mar 26, 2012 7:55 AM in response to Kalkasby WhelkWhelk,A restore helped for about an hour. However, before I'd even had a chance to play anything, the artist/song/album lists were mixed up again.

Apr 1, 2012 10:07 AM in response to DavidLagoby oraclebear,I believe I have resolved this problem - at least for myself.
Apparently, the problem lies with my changing the names of artists / albums / etc on my music on Itunes. Although this uploaded the new information to my phone, the phone was NOT smart enough to realize it needed to REINDEX the information.
Since all of my music is stored in the cloud, I simply turned IMATCH OFF on the phone and then turned it back on. This resolved MY problem and I hope that it resolves yours as well.

Apr 1, 2012 10:32 AM in response to Pagemakers2by bios,Just wanted to provide a few updates for everyone.
I posted on Mar 23, 2012 11:31 AM that I was going to call again. I got ahold of someone very nice, who again, really seemed like he wanted to do what he could to resolve the issue. He's even given me a few follow up calls to do some troubleshooting.
The problem? I really don't know if I still have the time for this, guys. I have a lot going on right now (last semester in college). I posted about the last time I did some troubleshooting with Apple. Read the post on Mar 7, 2012 11:29 PM. I just absolutely do not have time for another catastrophe like that to happen.
I implore you guys to call Apple and try to get this resolved. DIRECT THEM TO THIS THREAD! Tell them to Google "ios5 music not sorting" and to read the first link. I did just that, and the guy who I am dealing with really seems to want to resolve this issue.
I'm just going to wait for this issue to be fixed. Currently, all my music is alphabetized because I had to format due to the problems described in the post on Mar 7, 2012 11:29 PM.
Anyone else just straight up perplexed that this is even a bug? THIS IS APPLE. You know -- that company that revolutionized portable music a decade ago.

Apr 3, 2012 10:43 PM in response to DavidLagoby Rockstar2757,Updated to latest iTunes and still nothing. I re-organized my library and it was ok. I added 1 song and everything got shifted down one space starting from the letter of the artist. Way to go Apple, keep it up, super impressed. Watch how fast I go out and buy the next iPhone.

Apr 4, 2012 2:09 PM in response to DavidLagoby Rockstar2757,Oh JFC! Now my podcasts are all messed up too!!!! This iPhone has to be broken, right? There's no way this can possibly normal. WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY?!?!?!?!?!
