sandisk cruzer mini usb drive won't mount

Hello,

I have a 256 mb usb stick and it no longer mounts. I was using it to transfer files between my old win2000 pc and imac ... now neither machine mounts the device. Both the system profiler and disk utility get hung up trying to recognize the stick drive that I have to force quit the applications. Is this a dead device now at this point? Or is there some trick out there I can do to revive this device?

thanks

My problem is slightly different but appears related to OS 10.4.4 also since the Cruzer Mini (1GB) I just bought works fine in PC and Mac as long as I use OS 9.2 -- as soon as I plug the Mini into a Mac running 10.4 all the previously readable files cannot be opened and the Info calls them 'UNIX Executable Files'. I did manage to open the graphic files using GraphicConverter -- but not the text files.
Hope somebody has a clue because my new USB device is useless to me if I can't transfer files from PC's directly to my G5.

PS: The people at SanDisk tried very hard but, after several tries at reformatting, could not come up with a solution.
