Force shut down necessary after using iTunes

I have an Intel Core 2 Duo Macbook Pro running Mac OS X Lion. Unfortunately if I've used iTunes at all my laptop will only shut down if I hold the power button for 10 seconds. This occurs after every application including iTunes has been shut down. If I have not opened iTunes during a session then the computers shuts down normally. Can I do anything about this, is it serious, and has anyone else encountered the same problem? Thanks for any help givien.

im having the same issue. i have tried to reinstall fix things use old versions of itunes nothing works.

No one has solved this issue as far as I'm aware. I've taken it to an Apple store genius bar and they couldn't help, even though we cleaned out the harddrive and reinstalled the lot from scratch.

are you saying that you cleared your hard drive totally and reinstalled everything?? i have noticed that as long as i dont try to put in any music or files ituned turns on and shuts down and i can shut down but if i try to add music to the library it craps out. and still no help from apple.

Yes totally. Even if I open iTunes without doing anything I can't shut down. I've learned to live with it.
