Was this something that started after a Lion install?

This is usually a problem caused by either: MIDI drivers that need to be updated to Lion compatibility.... or, a Protools and/or MBox installation as the Avid Pro Tools MIDI driver is not Lion compatible.

What controller keyboard are you using?

MIDI Interface?

You really need to list your hardware (audio, MIDI, Mac) and MIDI/Music software you have installed to receive accurate help. These are user only forums and we would be guessing without further details.

I yanked out the avid drivers but the midi won't work.

If you have any idea how I can either reset the midi drivers that would be great.

I don't think you understand... the MBox Drivers are not yet Lion compatible. You can go to the Avid site and see if they've been updated. Other than that you need to take up the issue with Avid/Protools.
