Create new e-mail address and apple ID

How do I create a new e-mail address? (presumably @me.com)

I'm trying to set up a new Apple ID for iCloud but can't do it without an e-mail address.

I've posted this in the iCloud forum but no response - any help much appreciated.

Thank you

I think the answer is move to Android. i was an early adopter of Apple in the 1990's but that was when Apple Just Worked. Now it doesn't, I too am try to set up an iCloud account for my son and I have spent hours and find the only route is via a gmail account. Why would I bother coming back. Sorry Apple, Steve Jobs was a hero but without him .... I don't have enough passion I just want it to work.

It doesn't work because I need an email address before I can set up a new Apple ID and get a new @me.com address.

It's for my son who has previously used my apple id & e-mail but I now want to set up new ones for him.

Therefore I need to set up a new e-mail account (in his name, rather than mine) before setting up a new Apple ID and then iCloud, but I can't work out how to set up a new e-mail address?

Thanks.

Yeah I just posted a similar question - how do you create an Apple ID / iCloud account without having a pre existing email account. You can't. It appears you need to first create an email address at something like GMail, then use that as your Apple ID, then set up iCloud, then use your @me account for everything from then on in.. including as your Apple ID.

Seems silly having to sign up to a competitor's free service to then access Apple's free service, no?

I agree this is strange as my preference was to stay in the Apple ecosystem to avoid having to sync with third party content such as gmail, but I had to set up a gmail account to get a new apple ID.

I'm still confused by the Apple ID/iCloud/@me.com system - it should be straight forward (like logging on and off from a computer) but it's not.

I was searching endlessly for an answer on this, trying to setup an iPod Touch. If you try to get an Apple ID using the website or the App Store, you need a pre-existing email address as noted, but if you access the iCloud settings on your new device, it allows you setup a new me.com email address, which then becomes your Apple ID, all in one step, no pre-existing email address required.

I just bought another MacBook for my boys. I thought it was great to give them their own ID. When setting up the Mac it offers a @icloud.com account. I filled all in (and noted down all details). Once completed the Mac gives a message that there can be no more icloud addresses on this mac in the set-up menu (starting first time)?

I set up the Apple ID with this address, all smooth....just until I want to start using it....the Apple ID does not recognize the icloud.com address, I can not trace password or use the personal questions to reset...NOTHING WORKS!!

Do I need to authorise the icloud.com account? I can not enter Icloud to authorise as it has been authorised! Indefinite loop! No mail to the second e-mail address specified?!

Ok, so like Jerry I try to try to set up an icloud address.

Can anyone please help with a simple instruction. I can set up an hotmail address in a split second but since when should it be so difficult in the Apple Ecosystem?

Greatful for support - simple and straightforward ....and please not to the " set up and Apple ID Q&A" like above

I am trying to set up an iCloud account that my family can share, as I have paid for annual storage on my account but it far exceeds what I need personally. In other programs it is simple to set up sub-accounts that share a master email address. It is exceedingly frustrating that I must apparently set up a gmail account for my daughter and then somehow link these to a new iCloud account. Even doing that I see no opportunity to link her account to my existing iCloud storage.

Apple can surely do better than this.

I was having this problem too and was completely flummoxed and I REALLY didn't want a gmail account...

I finally figured out what to do: I created a new admin user on my laptop. Then when you sign in, the first thing it does is ask you if you want to set up a new icloud account. So I set it it up, got the new account name etc, and then deleted that user account on my laptop because I don't actually need it. The new icloud account remains. It does seem a bit of an arcane way to get around all this, but it works!
