migration assistant not connecting

I'm trying to use the migration asst to connect my older PC laptop to my new imac (I'm a first-time apple user).

Both computers are on my same network (at home) and I've installed the latest Windows Migration Assistant software to my PC. I've followed all the steps, and now my PC says "waiting for your mac to connect" and my imac simply says "searching for other computers" while the little loading icon is spinning. This has gone on over an hour. Not sure what's wrong or why they aren't connecting.....
