Q: iPhone 4s location wrong... Why?

My location on my 4s is completely out, it says I'm about 30 miles away from where I actually am.  It does this 90% of the time! And I'm not sure what I can do to fix it.  My iPad 2 and other family members iPhone 4 on the same wifi etc. doesn't have any prOblems with this.

iPhone 4S, iOS 5

The worse part is... I wanted to buy an app from appstore in India.

Unfortunately that app is not available in copenhagen.

Since i am virually located in Copenhagen, I cannot buy this app.

same with me. Problem occurs since yesterday, provider is Telekom. It locates to either Taiwan, Russia or (today it was toggling) to Vancouver ! Strange enough it does it even while the Navigon app shows the correct GPS location ! Moving outside for some distance, with good GPS and G3 coverage, it comes back after some time.

I'll reported to Apple as well.

I read on one page the the iphone 4S is suposed to support the Russian GLONASS-GPS. This system was switched on this week as far as I know. Maybe there are some problems with that???

    Hi all, same problem here.

On Tuesday night (13th Dec 2011) I checked my phone for the time and it said 21.20. I knew that couldnt be right so I went into the clock settings and my time zone said Baghdad!!! I live in the UK. My cell provider is O2 UK.

If I turn off Automatic time and put London as the time everything is fine. So I thought I'd check the Maps App and its locating me in Baghdad. Ive tried the Compass and Google Earth and they all had me located in Baghdad.

Today its been locating me in Sao Paulo.

I use the Maps and Location for work every day so its a massive problem for me right now. My wife has a iPhone 4S on Orange and shes locating fine with no problems. Also my best mate has an iPhone 4S on O2 like me and never had the problem.

    What is going on??

Ive reset the phone using the Home and top button but its still the same. I've also tried syncing it iTunes and restoring the phone but still no change. It may work for a couple of hours then all of a sudden Im back in Baghdad again.

Seems that the location bug is not only but also net- or provider-specific.

Using 3 equal iPhone 4S at the same place only the one with Telekom Germany SIM-Card changes to faulty locations (Spain, Tchech Repuplic, Russia, at least more often China) althoug I'm in Germany.

The 2 iPhones 4S with SIM-Cards from O2 Germany never had and still have no problem with location service.

My location on the 4s has started showing me from anywhere in china to the northern part of Africa, and I live in India, after a couple of tries it shows the correct location but not when I want it. The best part is I don't have any visa for the countries I am shown to be in google maps, I hope I do t get into trouble lol. I hope apple fixes this in their upcoming 5.1 update.

After reading all the comments I guess its not a problem with the iPhone 4S itself then?

So there wouldnt be a point in making an appointment with the Genius Bar in the Apple Shop?

Interesting factoid. And it kinda makes sense.

    http://www.gpsdaily.com/reports/Russia_surprised_as_Apple_uses_Glonass_in_new_iP hone_999.html

This issue seems to only affect me around 9pm NZ time - this morning at home my location is correct again.  Maybe it's when the Russian satellite is overhead it causes problems?  Big guess here.

did you even bother to read the previous comments?

it's now known why the location isn't working. all these are happening when you don't have GPS AND 3G signal.

    turn on Airplane mode.

    turn on WiFi.

turn off Location for a few seconds, then back on.

    voila! location works perfectly.

go outside, under GPS signal or where you have 3G coverage. again, location works perfectly.

so all of you stop whining about WHY and start whining about WHEN (it'll be fixed)
