Dec 15, 2011 10:40 AM in response to denisefromnzby ChrisHLA,Very good and reasonable idea indeed. I can believe that it might be the reason, too.
But when the russian sattelites are the problem, why doesn't the issue affect all providers?
The correct location depends on my SIM-Card in iPhone 4S:
O2 Germany: correct location, no problem at all
Telekom Germany: wrong location after several minutes, correct location in WIFI-only mode, respectively without GLANOSS or GPS signal.

Dec 15, 2011 10:56 AM in response to flavius andreiby denisefromnz,Get off your high horse.
Yes I read the comments, yes I try the suggestions, no it still doesn't work. You don't have the answer, WHEN will it be fixed by Apple is the obvious question, and I will whinge as much as I like.
As I said earlier, I will ALSO be talking with Apple today and will ALSO post my results.

Dec 15, 2011 11:02 AM in response to ChrisHLAby denisefromnz,These are the questions :) Bad 3G signal in conjunction with Russian GPS system? I'm of course just guessing based on what everyone here is saying.

Dec 15, 2011 11:07 AM in response to denisefromnzby flavius andrei,if your problem is the same as ours, then what i told you earlier works (for a limited time though). and the cause IS the one i just told you. i've replicated it on several phones (4s).

Dec 15, 2011 11:20 AM in response to flavius andreiby denisefromnz,Agreed. But you have to agree that limited time isn't good enough right? These are short term solutions until you need to use say Maps. I also want to know the WHY :)

Dec 15, 2011 12:32 PM in response to jaked1991by RSD1982,I spoke to an Apple Tech Help person today. He sounded very puzzled and put me through to a senior technician called Margaret Lombard. She said that she had 3 other calls the same today and she took a lot of details about the problem, my iPhone, what I had tried and the computer I use (New Core i7 MacBook Pro). She escalated the case and said that technicians will now look at it. She said that Apple have issued an alert to their technical help staff that this is a problem and that the engineers are working on a fix.
I'm annoyed at having to wait but glad that they have acknowledged the problem and are working on it.

Dec 15, 2011 12:58 PM in response to jaked1991by Blandinefrench,Hey guys !
I had the same problem ! I live in France and since two days my Iphone 4S checked me at Zhengzhou in China ! I went in an Apple store today and the seller told me that he had the same problem with his own Iphone (in Russia^^).
I try a lot of things, and I think that I fixed the problem (I am currently in France^^).
I don't know the right name for you because mine is in french but:
-Go to "settings"
-"General"
-"Reset" at the bottom
and chosse "reset network settings"
For me it is good !
Hope I could help you

Dec 15, 2011 1:02 PM in response to flavius andreiby denisefromnz,True, but I was meaning the big why - does it have anything to do with the Russian gps system or is that completely coincidental? Will we actually ever know? That kind of thing.

Dec 15, 2011 1:07 PM in response to denisefromnzby flavius andrei,i don't think it's glonass related... the iphone can't just figure out where it is in the absence of gps and/or 3G... meaning it can't use edge for triangulation. only wifi, AFTER you restart location in settings
