Nov 28, 2011 6:04 AM in response to jaked1991by craigfromthewest,I have the same issue. My location says I am 100 miles from my position. It works fine when I am not in Wi-fi. This is my second IPhone 4s as I returned my first one thinking that would solve the problem. When I was in the Apple store on their Wi-Fi it worked fine (typical). They replaced it saying they had never come across this problem before. I really hope to get a fix for this problem.

Nov 28, 2011 6:20 AM in response to craigfromthewestby richardfrommatlock,Yes i swapped my first one as well and still have the same problem. After doing some testing with Apple support they are going to pass the info back to the developers and they will hopefully get it fixed in the next update.
It might be worth giving them a call as the more people come forward with this the sooner they will realise it is an issue with the iPhone 4S and sort it out.

Nov 28, 2011 6:26 AM in response to Dougmortonby Dougmorton,I went to an Apple store yesterday and they were happy enough to replace my device. However, the genius didn't think it was a hardware issue. Since getting my new device I haven't had the issue but it has been less that 24 hours so that could change. Hopefully the bug should be fixed with the next iOS update.

Nov 28, 2011 6:30 AM in response to Sandy from NZby harv55,I have an iPhone 4 and I can confirm this is an issue with the 4 also. my weather application shows me as being 30 miles east of my current location. Sometimes it shows my current location, sometimes it shows me as being 30 miles away.
Sometimes I wish I was 30 miles from my current location...maybe iOS 5 picks up on this.

Nov 28, 2011 10:46 AM in response to richardfrommatlockby sam_c,OK. I was wrong.
When I got home, I checked the location while connected to 3G and wifi and it said Stoke-on-Trent (~50 miles away).
Then I put 4S in flight mode, quit Maps and turned Location Services off & on. Started Maps and location was correct and stayed correct.
I took it out of flight mode and it retained the location for about 5-10 mins, then spent ages not being able to find a location at all. About 10 min later and I'm back in Stoke...
So, it looks like a problem using GPS in some places - odd that it seems fine at my workplace (FYI 3G signal at home varies quite a lot between 1 and 4 bars).

Nov 28, 2011 10:55 AM in response to sam_cby richardfrommatlock,Hi Sam, yes that is exactly the same as mine... when the phone can't get a gps signal and is using the phone mast for triangulation the 4S gets the location wrong. If it is just using wifi triangulation it gets the location correct. This doesn't happen on iphone 4 or 3gs they always get the location correct. Apple are going to get back to me in a couple of days so I will let you know what they say.

Nov 29, 2011 10:36 AM in response to jaked1991by Sheltie4s,I am having the same problem, but my 4s (ios 5.01) thinks I am near Glasgow Airport over 300 miles from the Shetland Isles! I am on my 2nd 4s and have no position problems on my old iPhone 4 (ios 5.01) when I swap the sim card.
When out doors it finds me fine but when indoors, away to Glasgow I go!
I have a colleague with a 4s on 5.01 and when we compared positions indoors at work he was in the Dunblane area?
I hope this gets sorted as my friends on Facebook are starting to think I have moved to Glasgow ;)

Dec 3, 2011 12:18 PM in response to jaked1991by OriginalKit,I am based on the Wirral and since I upgraded software on my iphone 4 to ios5 I apparently frequent Wolstanton in stoke and Maghull and I cannot get the cloud sync to work at all!!! Has Apple released any kind of info to why this is happening???

Dec 10, 2011 5:27 PM in response to OriginalKitby Damersruth,I got my iPhone 4s last Thursday and same problem location 30+ miles out. Apparently it thinks ive moved from Co.Kilkenny to Co.Laois Waving it in a figure of eight to re-calibrate it has worked only only twice but then it reverts back to differing locations the next time I open maps but not where I am.. My iPhone 4 never had this problem, to my knowledge anyway. Disappointing :(

Dec 13, 2011 7:31 AM in response to jaked1991by abulkury,I am having this problem on 4s whether im on wifi or GPS. Im in Jordan - Middle East, and its giving me the location in China or in Amsterdam, which is thousands KM away! Any solution so far?

Dec 13, 2011 8:02 AM in response to abulkuryby Sheltie4s,I factory reset my 4s on advice of Apple Support,my position was fine, then synced contacts and calendar, still seemed ok, then synced my apps and position was once again miles out!
So I did a full wipe and restore and am back to where I started, location 300 miles out.
Strangly tho I know 2 other 4s owners in my area, whos incorrect loction is the same area of Glasgow as mine?
Will 5.02 sort it, I soooo hope so.

Dec 13, 2011 1:35 PM in response to jaked1991by M4478,I'm having the same problem. I got my iPhone 4S 5 days ago and everything was ok but now I'm located in London but I'm 1200 miles away. The weather is wrong, time zone is wrong (I want to leave it to automatic), maps are not working. My iPhone is practically useless. I tried to reboot it it worked for 5 minutes and now it's the same.
