how to update xp to sp3 on boot camp partition

I am running Windows XP via boot camp (only to use cad drawing program) Each time I try to update windows to SP3 I get the message that I have not got enough memory to do this ( or the update crashes and then uninstalls SP3 )The boot camp partition is 34 Gb as default The Imac has 3gb ram with a 320 hard drive memory what do I need to do to update to SP3 in order for bit defender 2012 to run

I have virtually nothing on the boot camp partition apart from the cad programme which I do not think is very big

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.2)

Have a read here http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=466996 for a solution.

The out of space (or 4MB needed) error message is because the SP3 updater wants to install it on your OSx partition, which luckily he cannot access.

The registry fix leads the way to your XP partition.

Thank you for the link to micrsoft fix.When trying to update to sp3 it now gets 75% complete but then crashes and states it cannot locate file but does not say which file it is and then it uninstalls update .very confusing!!!

Anything non-essential connected during the update ?

Like external harddisk, printer, scanner, etc.

If so, disconnect prior to starting the update.

Run a CHKDSK http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/c hkdsk.mspx?mfr=true before attempting the next update.

Maybe some error turns up.

HI ran a disk check but nothing appeared to be wrong ,unplugged everything still no joy .then disabled auto update and downloaded update from m/soft web site .3 attemps later sucess now on sp3 just have to install the 63 updates!!!!! Many thanks for your help
